Before you play a hand, you can rearrange the order of the cards. So make sure the glass ones are at the back so the x2 comes after you add all of the multipliers from face cards

Any multipliers should be on the right. The jokers activate left to right. You want you addition jokers, then your multiplication jokers last.

@ i mean yeah and RCE already does that for the most part, but I was talking about the regular cards that get scored. Any cards you play can also be moved, so you can do the exact same with playing cards as you have described with jokers. In other words, exactly what I said in my comment :)

With the Ace And straight Joker, he needed to discard that straight in order to get a straight with an ace in it. Either by getting a two and an ace or a 10 and an ace. with the middle cards, (which btw, isnt a straight anyway) he can get a tarot card. any way, discards will be wasted if he were to score and beat the blind, hence discarding for a worse straight is still good.

With the blueprint, you can move it around constantly. So you could’ve had it copy the negative +1 hands size) during the draw phase, and then move it for the scoring phase. It’d only affect the initial draw, I think, but it’s a free extra card. Watching pros play this game has humbled me though, they stress if their score doesn’t have a scientific notation by round 7.

I have a best friend who recently got into this game and I've been doing all the homework to help him (long story short, he's in and from Ukraine), and felt a sense of accomplishment when I had gotten him to beat the normal mode. I don't have the game (yet) myself, but the concept of "one more game" really hits hard with this game. Cheers to Matt for playing more of this, when it's beyond satisfying when it clicks and you can start to see a bigger picture with this game.

Balatro feels like a perfect streaming game. Nothing really "new" every video but it's good content. I think Dungeon Clawler probably deserves similar booking...

Balatro is fun for short sessions, dungeon clawler is fun for longer ones. for balatro the limit to how far you can go is around 38-40. since then the score you need to go becomes NAN. which is impossible to get. it has to do with the integer limit

A fun fact about a standard deck of cards: The four suits in a deck (hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades) are often thought to represent the four seasons of the year. Additionally, if you add up all the face values of the cards (Ace as 1, Jack as 11, Queen as 12, King as 13), the total is 364-add a Joker, and it becomes 365, matching the days in a year!

Without a retrigger effect photograph isn't that good. X2 off of a single card *only* has value if you have a decent flat mult to make use of it or you can retrigger the x2. He was focusing on a straight build and the superposition was giving him tarot cards allowing him to more easily fix his deck to keep allowing the straight build to work. Not taking the photograph was the right call there. Always makes me laugh seeing people not realize that "good" jokers are only good in context. There's very few jokers that you take regardless of the situation (blueprint, brainstorm, invisible joker)

@@pacmonster066 straights have great scaling of both chips and mult though, so optimally, he should probably have just taken all the xMULT (including photograph) and ditched the +MULT and +CHIPS. His deck was "fixed enough" and I'd rather have money than superposition. I would probably have ended this run with blueprint, the two x3, and the polynomial interest (the money is great for planets). Given how little he's played I think RCE did really well, it's amazing how much he can switch on his brain when there aren't beavers on the screen.

@@MrTact67 Again context. What does a single x2 get him when he already wasn't having a problem beating the blinds? He moved away from superposition when the need to deck fix wasn't necessary. Photograph isn't useful in isolation, it needs to fulfill a purpose. He already had xMult covered. Beating the blinds by an even higher score isn't helpful if you struggle to make your hand. And when the time came that he *did* need much higher scoring, the photograph wouldn't have gotten him there without a chad or buskin to retrigger it.

20:30 Noooooo Four fingers allows you to make a royal flush with four cards making the straight, and the fifth card making a flush which fills any suit gap in your straight. Throw in a blue seal, and superposition, and that's how I got to ante 11 riding on a lvl 30 straight flush two days ago. Never did manage to transition to Hack 2s though. NVM. You got there anyway

With the Soda Bottle, you really want to save it until you find an actually good tag, such as the negative Joker tag. It doesn't matter if negative jokers don't work with your build because there are boss blinds that require you to sell a joker/disable a joker and the extra negatives make those much easier. They also add more sell value so that the Temprance Tarot card gives you more money(it caps at 50 vs Hermits 20)

Bull, celestial, obelisk, The one that makes reds and blacks the same suit, and the one that gives you interest on your money, if I could have five Jokers, then I would focus on manipulating the cards in the deck so you have a blue seal on every card meaning every card in hand when the round is over will give you a planet card for free more scaling

Obelisk can be stupid powerful if you can survive on high card or pairs while you build your deck. Gives you freedom to do 15-20 flush, straight or full houses with crazy multipliers towards the end.

You can drag cards around before you play them, when you have something that gives you +mult when scored you want it to go before the polychrome cards so that it does 1.5x on a bigger number

When you open a Mega Buffoon you can take a joker that you won’t use and sell it before taking the good one, usually the more valuable are the rarest ones. That way you can make or get back some money you spent with the pack.

@@gazs7237 I mean obviously it wouldn't be for no reason. There's a few reasons to play and level up high card. Potential for baron build. It's a solid backup hand incase the game doesn't give you a better hand. Higher stakes especially as you have fewer discards to find larger scoring hands. You tend to play a lot of high card naturally as you play garbage hands to get rid of bad cards. Ultimately it comes down to what the game is giving you. If you were working toward a baron build but baron never showed up but obelisk did, it's a solid joker to take

The timestamp you provided doesn't show a sock, but also he had a straight build. None of his jokers (except the smiley face one) did anything on card score so retriggering would have been pointless. Let's say he did see a sock, what would he have gotten rid of for it? If this is late in the game without a joker that does something on retrigger (like photograph) he would have just died immediately without the xMult he was getting from the x3 straight joker and the x3 license.

The strategy for obelisk btw is you want to play a lot of high card or pair, something easy to play every hand. Once you've gotten that hand up to like 15+ you pivot to whatever scoring hand you actually want to play. This is how you build up obelisk mult to make it viable This strategy obviously needs a lot of help from planet cards to survive the building up Obelisk phase

Matt, you can rearrange the cards so your polychrome cards played are the LAST cards counted, thus making your mult more impactful. You're missing out on big points!

Obelisk in in fact only good if you get it early. The strat is to play high card/pair and get some poikt scoring jokers and then switch builds when you have played 20-30 hands.
