Omg man, I live in an old farm house that was built in 1902. That means we got newspaper insulation and when the wind blows you can feel it. Our pipes froze last night so we are without water currently and I have no doubt that when it thaws out our pipes will bust. However, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. We are happy and things are good. Hope you and Amy have a great holiday and as always thanks for the great story💜✌️

George also opened a honky tonk bar called the Possum Holler in York S.C. The bar is still there today and goes by the name the Holler since George sold it.

I was at his Possum Holler in Printers Alley, years ago. I even saw George there. Coming into the club, there was a corridor and when we were coming in, George was coming out. He was having some degree of difficulty negotiating the route, ricocheting from one wall to the other.

Same kinda cold here in Cincinnati. Blankets over the doors and windows, the kitchen faucet dripping…just in case. Car battery probably dead. I’m not going out to check, maybe later. I also remember a colder Tristate when I was younger. This kinda cold wasn’t nuthin’ 🥶😆 and par for the course most winters. Happy holidays to you and yours. Thank you for another great chat.

Hey Otis: sitting here with a cup of coffee and my pipe enjoying your video. I feel like I have a good friend sitting next to me chatting about the music industry. I have no attachment to that industry other than listening. You enlighten a lot to me and your storytelling is second to none … terrific. I live up in central Wisconsin near Appleton… So I can relate to your cold weather stories. If you ever make it up here would love to sit down and chat with you, perhaps a little ice fishing. You are great, thanks for putting these together … keep them coming

Happy holidays Otis, I'm just a couple years older then you, I think about all the things I looked forward to as a kid...summer, playing outside with friends, winter slay riding snow days off from school, and of course new music coming out from my favorite artist and bands. As is said one day you went in after a day outside playing with friends and never went out to play again 😢. I miss many things about years gone by, every once in awhile something reminds me of years and experiences gone by, your journey to share these stories of your journey reads much like my own. Being from NJ you'd not think me a country music fan but fan I am, owed to the fact the grand old Opry played live in the 1930's & 4O's inspiring my parents who lived in the Coal country of Pennsylvania to be fans. You have a great mix of the love of Country and clasic Rock music much like myself. Thank you for sharing, as much as I enjoy your story telling, sadly I now realize nothing is for ever. While we are not senior citizens just yet I can see my future just around the bend, with that in mind I wish you all the best, I think I speak for all your fans when I say I hope you have many many more years ahead. Merry Christmas ⛄🎄 enjoy !

Thanks again Otis for brightening up my day. We had an ice storm here in the foothills of Mt. Rainer ( Washington State) and have not been going anywhere. Time to write an ice storm song I guess...your vids on KZbin are simply the best and I have learned so very much from them.Having played in bands since the late 60's I have surely played in some sh#tholes and did not think much about it at the time...just happy to play for the people. My most memorable Christmas Eve gig was filling in for the bass player in a polka band...he was in Drug rehab ! Blessings on you for all you do for us!

The Possum Holler in St. Louis was actually on the Missouri side of the river at 8658 South Broadway. George Jones and the Jones Boys were advertised for opening night in February 1978. The only other big name advertised was Jerry Lee Lewis in July. The other acts advertised were Mabry and the Possum Holler house band and a couple of other local StL musicians. By August the building was listed for sale, but judging by the ads in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Possum Holler was open through October. By the end they were advertising "all you can drink for one price" every Wednesday, which seems like a truly terrible idea in that time and place. The building is still standing and most recently held the office of a used car lot. It had been a sockhop with an indoor swimming pool in the 1950s, and Chuck Berry and other big names played there then. It went steadily downhill after that point, but was a bunch of different night clubs with various names and themes up until a decade or so ago. Big name country acts now play at the River City Casino, which is a short walk away.

A few years ago I was told by a booking agent that Toby Keith was going to open a chain of clubs. They were to be called "I Love This Bar". (Anybody remember that) I went to one and it was headed in that direction. But it never fully materialized. Agent said we would fit. You know that "Redneck Country Rock n Roll' you do.... I said WHAT??? I did not know that was us! Thanks Otis.

You brought up a lot of names and places that are familiar to an Indiana boy like me. I’m originally from the Logansport area, but I have been in Indianapolis for twenty years. Sorry for the digression, but I recall that you once had breakfast at the White House restaurant in Logansport several years ago. I ate there hundreds of times over the years. It closed a few years ago after being in business for fifty-plus years. There is a barbecue restaurant there now. I spent an evening at the Peppermint Tiger back in the ‘70’s before it changed hands. I was in town for a softball tournament and we stayed at the old Howard Johnson hotel on West Washington. Someone recommended the PT to us. I recall it being a huge place and it was packed to the gills with twenty-something’s. I remember it being relatively nice inside and not at all what I’d consider a dive. I also recall there being a great band that night. Keep in mind that I was a twenty-one or twenty-two-year-old country boy at that time, so my expectations weren’t particularly high. My buddies and I had a great time. Of course, we drank way too much. The places to be in the late ‘70’s for us out-of-towner’s became TGI Friday’s and Lucifer’s, which was a fern bar. They were, as you probably remember, in Keystone Crossing. Also, the Bulldog in Broad Ripple. I don’t recall ever hearing of Possum Holler until today. I saw the Wright Brothers not too many years ago and they were great. I saw a lot of concerts at Market Square Arena, but I recall that there were a lot of big names that appeared at Starlight Musicals and Beef and Boards. Downtown Indianapolis was a much different place in those days. I also loved The Goodbye Girl and Jeremiah Johnson.

Merry Christmas, Otis, Hapoy Birthday, Wendell! I havent heard Wendell enough to give him a country singer's name, but I'm thinking Malcolm is a Johnny Paycheck. 78 was my first year as a full time musician in a great band. We played all the Houston clubs and a lot of the Southwest, and those guys are miraculously coming to my little studio now for the last year, and that's pretty damn great.
