Crows just get bored and check stuff out. But yes, they actually do develop team based strategies and work together to do things. They're very social animals, ridiculously smart.
@alexc52438 жыл бұрын
They're very smart and I have no doubt that they saw it as a potential source of food. If they see an animal that's is weak and is getting close to dying from age (or anything, really), they'll stalk it and wait for it to die.
@metafis24908 жыл бұрын
If that was true, they'd wait further away from it till it died(crows only eat carrion of larger animals),....they might be trying to shoo it out of the area(possibly their young nearbye).
@george9117518 жыл бұрын
i think they smell death wandering around the dog. when i watched that dog, i realize, that dog is very old and on 100% not healthy. i have many times seen crows testing a health of some weak or bad looking animals. in a Czech expression could "crow" mean something like burial employee. someone who put deaths under ground or eliminate them other ways.

Crows don't eat dogs, you idiot. The dog is old, not unhealthy. There's a difference.
@thorstenguenther7 жыл бұрын
Crows eat anything edible, including humans (hence their latin name "corvus corone" - carrion raven), and they show no mercy to anything weak, ever. A flock of them may kill newborn fawns or even calves. In the video, they were "playing", but they were also testing the dog's resistance to their taunting, and if the dog had been too weak, they would have attacked it in earnest.

I didn't know crows lived that long. They are scared of me, and I don't know why. i have never let anyone bother them. I have a 5 gallon feeder with cracked corn and sunflower seed, I also put out suitable food scraps. They love fish scraps. The raccoons get the scraps overnight, so I put out food scraps early in the morning, then sit and have my coffee, and watch them through tinted glass doors.

Having had pet crows it's a genetic instinct but they seem to do it to see if other critter has anything in it's mouth. They are literally like a pack of street kid pick pockets.

Try doing a call to get them to come in and getting them to make sounds to get the treats. They are super smart and will pick it up fast and can copy most sounds. They also remember your face forever and will pass it on to other crows watching that you are a safe supply of food. Both parties seem to be having fun. The crows aren't pulling the dog's tail hard enough to hurt it, and the dog is only startling the crows, not chasing them off. It's great seeing how these very different animals interact; a dog turning its back to another means that it intends no harm (possibly using it to "fake out" the crows in this context), and the crows take advantage of that to sneak around the dog, both sides keeping up the game.
