Freedom of speech does NOT protect any speech meant to incite violence or other lawless actions. Plus, there's the freedom to assemble, which the pastors could be seen as disrupting. We also didn't see what they were saying so idk lol
@Kneekco6 ай бұрын
If the speech incited violence or made explicit threats then it’s definitely something you can be charged for, but if they’re just shouting stuff like “you’re gonna burn in hell” that isn’t either of those things and would be protected so it’s hard to say whether the cop had any legal authority to stop the protesting religious idiots. Freedom to assemble doesn’t mean that others don’t have the freedom to assemble and counter protest their assembly, just like Israel supporters are free to counter protest pro Palestine protests

I've been to a lot of pride events. There is almost always at least one protest group. Most of the time, the police and others let them be because they're just shouting bible verses and holding signs. If the officer intervened, I'm guessing it's because the shouting of statements turned into singling out teenagers and actually getting agitated and aggressive. That's when the freedom of speech part turns into threats and the police get involved

it depends on the state, and generally if you dispell the suspicion you are no longer obligated to ID. but you should ID because even if you beat the charge you will never escape the ride to jail and it could take years to win a settlement from an unlawful arrest over failure to ID when you were not legally obligated to ID.

For the Pride rally, Kenji, America doesn't have hate speech laws but it does have something against "words of inciting violence" or something like that. So if you yelled hate at someone you could still get arrested for it on the grounds that you wanted to start a fight if I recall correctly. (Also as another commenter pointed out, discrimination against anyone for their gender, race, sex, or sexual orientation is also illegal so.) I also understand that when it comes to religion vs. law, it gets very shaky. Usually it ends up being "who is technically more correct in this situation" idk man. America is weird like that
@Kneekco6 ай бұрын
It usually has to be pretty explicitly provoking somebody to a fight or act of violence to meet the bar for incitement. Consider all of the unhinged ish pro Palestine people get away with saying about zionists and Israel, and vice versa, but the right to chant “from the river to the sea” is protected, despite the historic context of that chant often being a phrase extremist groups to advocate the elimination of the state of Israel by violent means. We also are a country that protects the right for the KKK to hold rallies as long as they don’t explicitly call for violence or conspire to commit harm
@unknowngiyuu33406 ай бұрын
If anyone’s wondering about how you can get aressted by voicing ur opinion, there’s such thing as hate speech, it’s an illegal practice, and when you do it while supporting a religion, it’s the exact same. Like if you say ‘God would not want this’ along with other stuff against a group of people or another religion, it would work like regular hate speech. Hope this helps you Kenji! :3
@NVMcK6 ай бұрын
I agree, but I'm pretty sure America doesn't have hate speech laws. It does have similar ones though
@codygates74186 ай бұрын
I’m pretty sure the USA doesn’t have any type of “hate speech” laws. For example someone could call a white person a “cracker” or say something antisemitic to a Jew and even if people didn’t agree they might be asked to leave, but not be arrested. The reason for this is because “hate speech” is a slippery slope that could easily be exploited.
@Worthmorethanrubies07096 ай бұрын
There isn’t any hate speech laws, there’s such thing as a hate crime. But what crime were any of those men doing other than exercising their freedom of speech? I’m just asking…
@NVMcK6 ай бұрын
@@Worthmorethanrubies0709 yeah, they weren't hate criming, but their words were inciting violence (since they were hateful and provocative), which they could still get arrested for. No hate! Just genuinely explaining
@Kneekco6 ай бұрын
@@NVMcK being hateful and provocative does not necessarily meet the bar for inciting violence, but it depends what you mean by provocative. Shouting “you’re all going to hell!” could be considered provocative but it’d be stupid to argue that meets the criteria of inciting violence, usually in America the provocation has to be more explicit than implicit. So it really all depends on what the protesters were saying or doing before the video clip started

So for the last clip, it’s most likely harassment. You can say whatever you want, but you cannot consistently yell at people slurs, threaten assault, etc. While he’s allowed to protest, the way he went about it is illegal. Even if he’s a preacher, he’s harassing other people, it doesn’t matter why he’s saying shit, it matters that he’s harassing people. The affect is what matters.

With the hate crime against the Pride parade, [Happy Pride btw] the police had every right to arrest him after he started saying insults to the people. As discrimination against anyone because of Gender, Sex, Sexuality, Race, Religion or Belief goes against Worldwide Human Rights acts as well as Equality Acts that have been placed. Sadly the only people who haven't gotten arrested for this are the governments themselves, who make laws that go against these acts because of Religion or Belief. (Mostly talking about the hundreds of bills that went against Transgender identity which happened in America last year and this year as well as others around the world about other Gender, Sex or Sexuality identities).

Pride Month isn't just for Gay, Bisexual, Pansexual and other sexual orientieren people but for all the Community put together. Each day of the month is celebrating a different group of people. So I understand that you know much about the Christian side of the argument but as who has taken the time to learn about both sides from both Eduction and personal reasons just remember probably the most important scripture, "Love thy Neighbour". @Worthmorethanrubies07096 ай бұрын
Phobia by its definition is: an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something. Homo is a Latin word which means man or human. If it’s used as a prefix “homosexual” Homos means same. Why do I or another Christian for that matter have to be afraid of someone who has same sex attraction. Now I’m not saying there isn’t any Christian who isn’t actually homophobic there surely is some but not all of us are. Just because we don’t support this, doesn’t mean we hate the people. Just not their lifestyle. Because biblically and morally it’s unnatural and out of God’s order and law that He established since the very beginning of time, space and matter.

It was stupid of him to scream at cops that were already agitated. Sure, you can say that they were wrong to arrest him over yelling, but I have no sympathy for people who start talking shit and try to play victim after the fact. Then he and some others claim he has heart problems, but why would he do something like screaming out of anger and trigger a heart attack from the stress. He brought it on himself for the cops to approach him after all that. Don't start nothin, won't be nothin.
