Awesome information thank you 😍 I'm in SEQ. I tend to just plonk seeds or plants in willy nilly where I have space... Here's hoping I can come up with a better plan like yours to suit my climate and be more organised 🤞

This was so so helpful. We live in the Northern Tablelands of New England in N.S.W., 1000 m above sea level. So I'm thinking we share a similar climate.I really appreciate the time you take to explain things. Thank you so much.

Thanks for this video, it was really helpful. We are in central North Island NZ so a similar growing climate and timings to Tasmania. I'm gonna try push my potato crops either side of winter a bit more this season with the plastic method you mentioned.

I use a yates garden guide that I have had since the 60s, as a general rule, it is tatty and torn and been recovered with cardboard, but the kids were all given a new copy, and they swear by it. But I plant summer seeds at bud swell for nectarines, it is a far more accurate judge of seasonal variations, Tomato seeds go in first sign of budswell in a seedling raising box with heating pad.

Thanks so much for the very informative videos. I am so glad I accidentally found you on YT. I watch a lot of US/UK videos and try to adapt them to Melbourne with some hits and misses.. then I found self sufficient me. But he is in sunny QLD. Your Tassie climate seems to be the closest. My Wattles are blooming, all the spring bulbs are starting to bloom... finally something I can relate to. Thank you. PS pls ask your wife to do a similar video for flowering annuals..

Thank you John, although we are on north coast NSW we have always yearned to live in TAS and I’m storing all this info for that day. My veggie garden is about half your size and the only problem we have is keeping bandicoots and wallabies out with fencing etc, sometimes it’s called share cropping!

Thanks for the link, a corrugated iron fence would certainly do the trick but we are in a high wind area and the chicken wire with bird wire overlay is keeping them out so far. On our 1 acre the wildlife have the run of about half the area.

Well I’m in QLD but similar seasons as I’m in the coldest part. Our last frost is mid October. Do you grow melons there?
@homesteading4 жыл бұрын
We have experimented with cold climate melons, but they don't do very well as our summers don't really get hot enough.

My biggest problem is Lettuce. It grows really leggy. Any tips? Am in Melbourne.
@homesteading4 жыл бұрын
This usually occurs if you are growing a "cool season" lettuce in warm weather. Try different varieties. Remember Melbourne can get much hotter then here in TAS (in summer) so maybe use shadecloth in hot weather?

Is your garden a full time or part time job, how much can be done if you work full time at a job and only have the weekend to do most of the gardening
@homesteading4 жыл бұрын
Our garden is part time - I also work part time off the homestead. Growing a good veggie garden only takes a couple of hours a week if managed correctly.
