To me, Paes set up the future for Indian athletes in individual sports to prove at the highest level. He is and always be an Indian sporting legend and icon.

From Paes-Bhupathi to Sania-Bopanna till now in Tennis, and from Syed Modi & Padukone till Saina-Sindhu and now Prannoy-Lakshya in Badminton, the journey of indoor outdoor sports has been really slow but bit assured progress so far, atleast in Badminton. Such a proud moment this, of Paes winning Bronze ✌️☺️ 🇮🇳

@@nsundu123 Talk about yourself. Any regular Indian tennis fan will tell u otherwise. He n Mahesh bhupathi were household names in the 90s reaching world no.1 at one point. Sania Mirza being the first Indian women, got the advantage of social media during the 2000s.
@SingNostalgiaWithAmogh3 ай бұрын
@@nsundu123 Not exactly, mate. Paes-Bhupathi have won Wimbledon in 1999 itself, but the problem is that we people rarely followed anything else except serials cricket & bollywood, and TV cable era was just in baby steps since late 1990s, especially the people were more welcoming to cable channels since 1998-2000s or so. Otherwise, Paes is anyways legend of the doubles game ✌️😊

Those tears of Paes, and his playing the bronze medal match all through his injured serving hand, the winning moment and finally sharing the podium with pride, automatically brings every Indian and in fact any well-wisher to tears 🥹😭😫 Paes the trendsetter after our medal drought since 1980 Moscow Olympics ✌️☺️ 🇮🇳

whoever has seen leander Paes in Davis cup's and whenever he plays for the nation....can vouch for the fact that ..even if it would have been Pet Samprass in the first round... and Paes +nationalism...could have beaten Samprass.
@NN-fw9il3 ай бұрын
Pure delusion 😂 😂. Not a chance. He lost to Agassi in straights . Sampras would've defeated him as well if he'd cared about the Olympics instead of neglecting it throughout his career. Yes he was injured but he's always neglected the Games.

It's a surprise for me why Paes couldn't become an elite singles player . Here also he defeated Thomas Enqvist ( Thomas was regularly a top player back then) played equally well with Agassi. I know he was not consistent. But why so ? He had the potential to win grand slam . I am not talking about doubles or mixed doubles where already he is a GOAT. Can anyone explain
@chandanmohanty95264 ай бұрын
You check the track record most successful doubles players had an unsuccessful outing in singles n most successful singles players generally failed in doubles. I found singles require more of stamina n doubles more of athleticism. Basically He started in an era of already established singles players n he didn't have that much success initially in singles so switched to doubles n became a legend.

Paes for beast for the country.He was highly motivated when he represented the country.He has best higher ranked players like Ivanisevic in grass for Davis cup
@mydrawingsnilotpaldas75464 ай бұрын
For singles you need atleast 6feet height. Less height you have to cover more court, more height you have to cover less court, that makes you tired as the game progresses against your opponent, but in doubles you have to cover half the court. So equation balanced there. Some may say there are tall players who are not successful, yes , but I am saying it is 6 to around 6.2 ft what is required in singles, above 6.2 ft is also disadvantage, because your body weight increases, then you have to carry more weight than your opponent and get tired earlier. If you see successful players in singles all are between 6 to 6.2 ft which is ideal, like Novak, Nadal, federar, andy, stan, sampras, and now Alcatraz
@mydrawingsnilotpaldas75463 ай бұрын
@@chandanmohanty9526 I don't think so, for example Serena Williams and Venus Williams equally successful in both doubles and singles, Martina hinges, navratilova, are also some examples

One has to afford on the tour personal coach, fitness trainer, physio, and other specialists hotel and lodging, travel and be consistent to participate in most of the big tournaments which are hosted outside the country and you need to travel a lot to have exposure and and gain experience against big players and latest updation to the technology related to a particular sport or game which is a set back for talented Indian athletes and players.

After disappointing show in LA '84, Seoul '88, Barcelona '92, India finally got a medal in Olympics (individual medal throu Peas) and that is very great, because the level of support (monetary and other support) in 1996 is very very negligible when compared to what we are getting now in Sports. In '84 PT narrowly missed Bronze and in '92 Ramesh Krishnan & Peas pair lost the Q/F match. Things are different now. Peas inspired us that every Indian has everything in them to win medal in Olympics.
