Great testimony. I agree that young children should be baptised if they give evidence of understanding the gospel and of accepting Christ.

Whenever there is a credible profession of faith, there is an opportunity for Baptism. I do belong to a church that the last time there was a vote was to buy a church building after renting for almost ten years, so in some churches, not even adults regularly vote. However, children who profess faith in Christ can be baptized, can participate in Communion and can be members.

Your crisis of faith as a freshman in college sounds much like Billy Graham's! You both took your faith and did something with it!

I've always felt that if your kid doesn't understand death, they cannot understand the gospel.

Wcf 28.4. Not only those that do actually profess faith in and obedience unto Christ, but also the infants of one, or both, believing parents, are to be baptized. 😂 it's fun being a presbyterian

You would need to make your case from Scripture, not the Westminster Confession.

@trevor courtney OhNoo! A very blunt side attack of criticism. My defenses are weakened by the simpleness of the argument and his defenses are too complex. I don't have any explicit ammo only implicit ones. I'll run to fight another day.🤕

This whole tesitomy is about him realizing he was a sinner….at 5 years old..Have you spoken to a 5 year old lately? Where is the part of him realizing that Jesus is the savior? People love to talk about water baptism, rarely do you hear any commentary about the baptism that Jesus baptizes with, the baptism of fire, the Holy Spirit, the only baptism that matters is the baptism (circumcision) of your heart which happens when you believe in the Messiah! How are you going to believe that unless you understand who Jesus is? What He did? When you come to the realization of who Jesus is and choose to follow him…that is when you’re baptized with the Holy Spirit. This conversion will be evident in the way you live your life meaning that you will naturally repent and grow in sanctification. It continues to amaze me, even at my church, how leaders can speak on baptism, preach 40min sermons and not mention the baptism of the Holy Spirt.

Questions .... *Does itself scripture ever say that the baptism of infants should be delayed to the age of reason?* *When in Christian history, does one read of a Christian interpreting scripture in this way?* Note, in the Old Testament, when a baby was born, they entered into the covenant through circumcision, based on the faith of their parents. This prefigures the New Covenant, when a baby is baptized, based on the faith of their ... parent. Baptism is a symbol but not symbol only. The exterior sign of water symbolizes the greater spiritual reality occurring in the soul, where one receives the indwelling of God in us and sanctifying grace lost in the Sin of Adam (original sin is a deprivation), and one is cleansed of all personal sin. It's through baptism one is sanctified, regenerated, and it is how one scripturally is "born again." This sacrament is foretold in Ezekiel 36: _25 I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26 A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will take out of your flesh the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to observe my ordinances._ *Who taught that infants should be Baptized?* *_“The Church received from the Apostles the tradition of giving Baptism even to infants._*_ For the Apostles, to whom were committed the secrets of divine mysteries, knew that there is in everyone the innate stains of sins, which must be washed away through water and the Spirit.”_ Origen, Commentary on Romans, 5:9 (A.D. 244). *There was a question in the early Church on WHEN to baptized infants. Read on from Saint Cyprian:* _“But in respect of the case of the infants, which you say ought not to be baptized within the second or third day after their birth, and that the law of ancient circumcision should be regarded, so that you think one who is just born should not be baptized and sanctified within the eighth day…And therefore, dearest brother, this was our opinion in council, that by us no one ought to be hindered from baptism…we think is to be even more observed in respect of infants and newly-born persons…”_ Cyprian, To Fidus, Epistle 58(64):2, 6 (A.D. 251). *More from St Nazianzen.* _“Have you an infant child? Do not let sin get any opportunity, but let him be sanctified from his childhood; from his very tenderest age let him be consecrated by the Spirit. Fearest thou the Seal on account of the weakness of nature?”_ Gregory Nazianzen, Oration on Holy Baptism, 40:17 (A.D. 381). *More from St. Augustine.* _“And if any one seek for divine authority in this matter, though what is held by the whole Church, and that not as instituted by Councils, but as a matter of invariable custom, is rightly held to have been handed down by apostolical authority, still we can form a true conjecture of the value of the sacrament of baptism in the case of infants, from the parallel of circumcision, which was received by God’s earlier people, and before receiving which Abraham was justified, as Cornelius also was enriched with the gift of the Holy Spirit before he was baptized.”_ Augustine, On Baptism against the Donatist, 4:24:31 (A.D. 400).

"First act of obedience"? Dude, the first act of obedience is to be profess your faith. Water baptism is a mockery of the true gospel message. It's a religious tradition.

@Masonb30 sadly even "christians" obey traditions. Water baptism isn't needed OR required for anything other than a personal recognition that one will choose to live in faith. It's not a commandment of God in any sense. Depressingly, religion commands it is😢

He referred to baptism being the RESULT OF his profession of faith. Also, It is not merely a tradition, take a look at what Jesus says about it!

How do you understand Acts 2:38? Had Peter already fallen into religious tradition the very day the Holy Spirit established the New Testament Church?
