Whilst the vast majority of our rescues go smoothly, occasionally we are faced with a rescue that takes a lot of skill, patience and luck to pull off.
We were recently called out to help relocate a family of Egyptian geese (under license) after they had wandered dangerously close to a busy main road. Although we do rescues like this all the time, both mum and the ducklings were very skittish and it quickly became one of the most difficult rescues we have done for a long time...
PLEASE DONATE - Just £3 from every viewer can help us save many more animals! Online: bit.ly/wafdonate Text Donation: Text WILD3 to 70300 to give £3.00, (WILD5 to give £5.00 and WILD10 to give £10.00) UK residents only.

Oh, absolutely perfect rescue. Quite admirable patience. So much for _"A bird in the hand, is worth two in the bush"._ More like, _"A goose into the air, is worth 2 (+6 ducklings) in the net!"_ 😉 Remarkable how she went and told "dad" and they both came back to see what they could do about their "periled" offspring. Really impressed with this one. 😃

I know that feeling well; Having a task at hand - The opportunity for its conclusion presents itself, through patience and perseverance and is within your grasp - the waiting and struggles have been long and you now stand "in the moment", focusing on nothing else. - Upon success, on top of the feeling of relief, you realize you can feel your own heart beat, all the way up to the chin! The RUSH of success! Haha, and a well-earned one for you. Cheers! 😊👍

Simon, just watched this two year old video again, and I realized that what you were doing in your capture is something few rescuers would have known to do. You read those ducks, and tried everything. Only someone who has done so many duck rescues would have been able to pull that off! Your knowledge and patience are amazing!

That was so amazing to see, and how the mom got the dad and even though they could fly away, they stuck together. It wouldn't surprise me if the geese understood that you were busy with trying to help, because the mom at one point walks into a confined space with the babies, so could be she has been caught and released into a better place before.

Egyptian geese are very fascinating and wonderful creatures I'm among them regularly and I can safely say that they're very intelligent and social, friendly, lovable, funny, goofy, and absolutely beautiful (all this is true for every kinda of geese by the way). I adore them and love them to bits. I can totally understand why Ancient Egypts saw the Egyptian Geese as holy, because they are!

It's called Egyptian goose and in some parts of Europe considered a problematic, invasive species because of its sometimes quite aggressive and destructive nature towards other species. That does however not mean that they don't deserve to exist and it's a great rescue release! :)
