You did a wonderful job capturing the emotional strain that dementia has on families! My grandmother suffered from it. We all tried as hard as we could to make sure she knew she was loved and cared for. It's got to be so hard, knowing you can't take care of yourself anymore. Lindsay did an amazing job portraying the spectrum of feelings that this awful condition can bring. ❤

I had my mom with me the last 12 yrs of her life. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's within a few years after moving in with me. At first I cried myself to sleep every night thinking my single life was totally screwed as I was an only child and there was no one else to help. But, as time went on (even as her symptoms increased) I began to enjoy those special days with her and still look ack with gratitude for the gift of having her with me and all the crazy things dhe did that were hysterically funny in hindsight. No matter how bad her memory got she never forgot me and would break into the biggest smile saying my name with tremendous affection whenever I entered the room after leaving for a few minutes!

My father died from symptoms of the disease. He lost his appetite for food and water. He starved to death. One of the last things he said, as he was looking at my mother, "There's Betty Barton, isn't she beautiful? I'm going to ask her to marry me." He had a smile on his face and a look in his eyes of how proud he was. What a gentle man he was. He was 85. I'm now 71 and have an appointment to find out if I have dementia. Family members are worried that I may have it. I like to think I'm a lot like my daddy. The only one I don't want to forget is Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior 🙏🏻💓

As the middle child of five kids you could say that I was the black sheep most the time. As my mother and father became advanced in age and began to need more and more help w/ everyday responsibilities, it fell to me to provide the help since all the others lived far away or too busy w/ work to be available, I often felt somewhat resentful. But after my father passed I was with mom about all the time and, like you, I hogan to cherish our time together, especially during her last few days here. Now I have many happy memories and few if any regrets. Now I thank God for the opportunity that living nearby her brought me. Thankful I had them as long as I did!

Much respect to Lindsey Wagner for her choice to age gracefully.. Truly amazing in these times of such insecurity that famous people find the need to hold on to their past and look like plastic clowns. Jessica Tandy was a class act that was comfortable in her own skin, too. Two amazing women. Such grace and class.

I agree. I'm 60. I get the omg I'm looking old...er. LOL But that's what happens! I believe there is beauty in acceptance and in every stage of life. I think when people can find that beauty in themselves, they don't have as great a need to defy nature. I understand the desire to feel better about your looks and of wanting the inside and the outside to match. For me, I take care of myself the best I can. That's enough for me. All the best to you.

No sh*t! I was surprised that someone as naturally beautiful as Goldie Hawn would go under the knife and, in my opinion, destroy those God-given looks. I kind of think her husband, Kurt Russell, did as well. People should just accept that we all, if lucky enough to live, will age and become old, saggy, and wrinkled, but aging is beautiful

Lindsay Wagner was always one of my favorite actressess. I named my daughter after her character, " Jaime". Shes still great! A very touching movie and it did bring tears to my eyes. My younger brother has early onset dementia. He suffered a couple of very serious head injuries when younger which I believe may be to blame. He was only 40 when we started watching it happen. Sadly, when our parents passed something happened to our family and Kens wife, who hated us, turned him against myself and our youngest brother and we can no longer have any contact with him. Despite reaching out to her, she wont even reply to let us know how he is or if hes alive. I sent police to do a check on him a few years ago and he told them we had a big argument and dont speak any longer. This movie made me think of him so much and Im going to continue to pray that God will bring us back together soon. Great movie!

I love Lindsey Wagner, she's an amazing and too often underrated actor. "The Bionic Woman" was a great show (as was "The Million Dollar Man" with Lee Majors and so many others!) Great memories, they don't make them like they used to! 🎬 They’ve made Ms Wagner look older and have actually toned down her looks for this movie. She does a great job in this role, such a wonderful actor and she's aging so beautifully! It's really nice to see an actor who hasn’t ruined her face with too much plastic surgery, to the point that they don't even look like themselves anymore! (And at younger and younger ages...)

The wonderful thing about women is that we see beauty in women of all ages and I'm sorry but it's kind of obvious that the person who wrote the comment was a man when he said that she was beautiful in her heyday because I can see her beauty still and she hasn't changed that much. She's just older. I know you meant well but it's just sad how shallow the male perspective can be. Of course if the person who left the comment was a woman well she's a little more judgmental than most.

Very good movie. My mom passed in 2012 from cancer. We didn't get along but when she got sick, i became her care taker for five years. I had to step back from my job keep up with her appointments and treatments. I was taking care of my family of two and running her home too. Taking care of someone sick, is not easy and will burn you out if there no other support. FORGIVE AND MOVE ON.

Mom and I never saw eye-to-eye on anything, and we didn't like each other. When she turned 80 and was in a nursing home, I visited every day. We became very close and loved one another dearly. We had a Mother & Daughter "forgiveness party." She started it by first asking for my forgiveness over a really stupid event, then that made her think of other stupid events she asked forgiveness of me. I told her I forgave her long ago and then picked out a bunch of stunts I pulled... asking forgiveness from her. At first, we cried. But, it didn't take long before our forgiveness party took a different turn! We began laughing at each other's funniest mistakes and misunderstandings. We laughed so hard, so long, and so loudly! We loved each other, and we knew it. Three days later, in the wee hours of the morning, I thought I heard her calling my name. Moments later, I learned via phone that she had just died! I'm so happy we held that Forgiveness Party. Neither she nor I have to get locked up in regretful grief over what could have remained unsaid forever had we not done what we did that day together. It was so wonderful to hear what we each need to hear... especially the words, "I love you."

I'm glad you made best decision for you but you're really not in any position to give advice n try to speak from on high to people you don't know. Not everyone will or should do this n this movie of course deals with mild estrangement. There are parents who have done far worse than what this man experienced as a young person. It would actually be a very toxic situation for some people to feel forced into a caregiving role. Some people however are still trying to seek the love they never got from the parent n it doesn't usually work out like a Hallmark movie. These are tough decisions for everyone n no right/wrong answer n honestly people should making day to day decisions with this often inevitable end in mind especially when parents are over 60.

@@nightbaby5101nice story n happy for you but I'm really curious knowing she was getting older n older, especially once in her 70's n you too getting older why do you think neither one of you reached out to do this earlier? Would she have been receptive? Would you? What did you most need to hear from her? What did you most need to say? Clearly you both knew time was running out n she would likely pass in next few years, so why didn't either of you do anything about the riff. What had you done in the past to try to work things out n why do you think it didn't work? Lastly is there another person in your life who is still alive you can speak with before it's too late?

I'm glad to see Lindsay Wagner being able to continue her acting career. It's often very hard for woman who naturally ages to do so. There is so much pressure in Hollywood for staying and looking young. I admire any woman who chooses to embrace her aging rather than avoiding it. It is a natural phase of life. I remember her from The Bionic Woman days. Jack surprised me by how well he handled that "that may be true, I brought you some clothes would you like to change now?" I LOVE the understanding and insights of the young nurse/caretaker who brings a lightness of being to this movie.

Not all Alzheimer's patients are affable and sweet and compliant. Looking after an extremely aggressive Alzheimer's suffering parent can be not only emotionally exhausting, deeply stressful but dangerous as well. For their own safety, many psychiatric Alzheimer's patients benefit from high care facilities where 24/7 nursing care is provided..and the medical staff are prepared for violent behaviours. Sentimentalising parents suffering from Alzheimer's may prevent the best professional care being provided. Administering medications and changing nappies and bedsheets and feeding a fully grown adult parent who doesn't recognise you, who is non compliant and larger than you and stronger than you can be overwhelming ....
@brandyk
@brandyk 20 күн бұрын
@@kiraalialeeonfairythegreenone yes this is an excellent point as well and I'm simply trying to bring a balanced perspective as their seems to a lot of humble bragging going on n most people have their own agenda and biases. But if for whatever reason you have a chaotic, volatile,toxic or estranged relationship with a parent if you are the only one left to possibly take care of them you need to realize stuff that is already difficult to do n endure( emotional abuse, outbursts,anger,etc) if you had a decent relationship prior but can be a nightmare if you didn't. You will most likely read into n take many things they say n do personally and at times it may actually be. That parent especially one who on some level knows what they did to cause the estrangement likely has guilt even shame although they never acknowledged doing anything wrong and always painted you as oversensitive n ungrateful. So instead of them appreciating what you are still doing for them they may have deep resentment n lash out at you with a lot of projections n God forbid you are still in the will or worse the sole heir if anything I usual happens in the home even if simply an accident or something the home health aide or nurse did, you could even face charges. Yes perhaps Ive watched too many Datelines

WHAT A WONDERFUL MOVIE!!!!!!❤❤❤ I could go on and on about its unending virtues but I’ll just say this: I was prepared to watch this because Lindsay Wagner was in it. Usually, when older stars are in movies now their characters are watered down almost to be ridiculous and their acting, over-the-top. There was none of that with Ms. Wagner! To top it all off, is the character who plays her son. Can’t recall seeing him before but he’s fantastic! The rest of the cast deserves the best accolades, also. And in same time can relate to the child/children - they are from you, but doesn't belong to you ( only to God) , as parents - they have duty to raise children, then children leave home ( even as Bible said - ) and make their own way, then some children can /want look after parents, but it's not as black and white - often they go along from distance, but as here,- even short visit is unbearable, as a carer I know often best is for strangers to look after elderly parents, for some children is too heart breaking watch parents degenerate ( specially with abnormal amount of dementia, which is absolutely devastating to observe in loved ones), so we need to be fair here...

I'm coming up 66yrs also and my two kids are busy and I don't see them much anymore. I also worked as a nurse and saw many patients that I wished had family or friends come to see them or more often. I loved the elderly patients and my favorites were those with dementia and Alzheimer's as they more than most, needed patience, love and understanding.

When he first walked into the house the I could sense the way he felt and with that and the music 🎼 just made my heart hurt. 💔💔💔💔And now the conversation between Jack and his mother, the sense of reaching out to each other and trying to help each other realize what each one felt or was feeling is so difficult to comprehend. It makes me want to help them so badly. 😢

It made me sooo angry that so many people were dumping on Jack and didn’t seem to see how painful some of the decisions that he had to face. He could had the choice of accepting them or turning them down, so at least give him credit for choosing the toughest choice. And as for the comment by the woman who said that when the mother tried to lead them to do the right choices and loved them,etc. Somehow I see some time that didn’t apply. She constantly said ugly things to him. When he said that he was sorry his dad died she told him that he had killed his because of a broken heart when Jack had run off and left them and other hurtful things like that. He knew that it wasn’t true but it must have nearly killed him to think that was the way his mother thought and blamed him for it. So please cut the poor guy a little slack. 😢😢😢

Unfortunately in the United States yes they can tell an adult that they cannot take care of their parent. All they have to have is someone anonymously making a phone call and saying abuse or neglect and they will come to your door and they will find a reason to take your parent or your child. And yes it should be criminal.

So I believe that even tho I never seen the love in her I truly do now. This has given me time to heal and forgive all the years of hurt.. I'm blessed to have found my mum in this terrible disease.
