@comradewindowsill4253 Жыл бұрын
That's cause the Italian R is different from the English one. Actually, a lot of English speakers have trouble with the Italian R as well, despite the fact that some of us actually have that sound in our phonemic inventory, just in a very different place- it's how Americans pronounce intervocalic T, for example in the word 'water'. The 'T' is actually identical to the Italian short R. And yet, even Americans struggle with this sound, and say they cannot roll their Rs.

I always wonder why Taiwanese people say "a Taiwanese" rather than "a Taiwanese person". I'm a white person in Taiwan and everyone says I'm American. I am actually, but the majority of white people I come across here speak Eastern European sounding languages and are definitely not American or British or Australian or any of those native speaker nationalities. Also, those white people never talk to me, and I find Taiwanese people call them American in casual conversation. I'll tell them "huh? That guy speaks some weird language, and it looked like Russian was the language on his computer screen... you sure he's American? Did he tell you where he's from?" I ask out of curiosity because I'm just curious where these people are from and what brings them to Taiwan. Taiwanese people just stop replying to me when I ask this though. This is the worst thing about Taiwanese people. When you want information from them, they just ignore you if they don't feel like talking to you. So rude. Or they don't answer directly and still assume you know what they're talking about. I asked several people where markers were a while back. They all said "oh, you don't have any? you can borrow mine." Okay, that's nice, but I want to know where they are HERE. I then asked the manager of the place where the markers were, or if we were expected to bring our own (since it seemed like the other people had their own) and she showed me. I was then told by other people that the manager now thinks I'm useless because I dared to ask someone important such a stupid simple question. Well, the other people wouldn't freaking answer me!!! They tried to help me, but they won't just answer the question "WHERE ARE THE MARKERS?". I don't understand how such a simple situation can be made so complicated, and these complicated situations do nothing but make everyone look down on me, and it's all because Taiwanese people refuse to communicate in any way that they aren't familiar with, but foreign people AREN'T familiar with it, and will just ask direct questions. "Hey where are the markers?" "Over there." "Cool, thanks". This is the conversation I expected. Just the other day I found myself in a truck with random people I couldn't really communicate with (long story) and they got on the phone to tell someone about the American they just picked up. I never told them that. They actually said "waiguoren" first, then the person on the phone asked which country, and without skipping a beat they said "Meiguo". I think they were afraid that dirty foreign people will infect them with coronavirus, actually. (Yeah, that's not racist)

We tend to assume any accent from England just means London accent. For some reason or another. Also Aussie vs British accent sounds almost exactly the same. Same with some South African accents. Usually only if they got taught British English. Irish though definitely sounds very different. Not sure how ya got that one.

so basically your japanese students are actually impressed by your English, which is a good thing, even though it might be annoying to have to tell them you're actually Japanese all the time and non-Japanese people tend to be condescending and not believe something as simple as your nationality, which is really just annoying I'm Brazilian and I did live through experiences of people who couldn't speak my mother tongue trying to explain to me how I should pronounce words in my mother tongue, I know how that is xD

@@ChaniBethyPooPoo It's "Turning Japanese" by The Vapors. I've always adored the song. However, I've questioned it's appropriateness/possible racism for years. The few people I've asked who were from Japan didn't think so and found it somewhat amusing. When first released, the band kept having to explain it. So, I humbly apologize to Japanese people and everyone, if I loved a problematic song as a child. To me, it was about a boy in love with a girl -- so desperately he cared more about her than anything else in life and would happily be Japanese (or anyone/anything/anywhere) to be with her. A few of the lyrics: I've got your picture of me and you You wrote, "I love you," I wrote "Me, too" I've got your picture, I've got your picture I'd like a million of them all round myself I want a doctor to take a picture So I can look at you from inside as well You got me turning up and turning down I'm turning in, I'm turning round I'm turning Japanese.... The words are fervent and weird (I thought, *"Wow.* He _really_ loves her, if he wants a picture of her internal organs, and his fierce love is changing his ethnicity!"). Little me wanted a love like that one day. Anyone who's truly been in love knows nationality and ethnicity are not going to keep people apart. Though very different songs, it also always makes me think of "I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones (💗). Return Boop!🎶🐛💖

My wife had a similar experience about 10 years ago. She is Asian Canadian and speaks fluently Japanese. When she was in study exchange, in Tokyo, she had a phone call and answered in English. One person next to her was very impressed about her English and asked in Japanese if she did an study exchange in USA. She answered that she is now in study exchange (in Tokyo). It took quite a time from the person to realize that she is Canadian (hence fluent in English) and not Japanese. :D

There's actually as many Sora(s) as needed when he makes videos where he needs to talk to himself. Remember that Sora has a lot of "Ougi!"/Ultimate Technique in his previous videos. I love your comment, because he rarely sounds like he's from the U.S. to my ear (I adore blended accents -- okay, I like accents in general, and his keeps shifting). We've so many accents in the states. Sometimes, I can tell a few of the Canadian accents apart, but I'm not educated enough to identify many (as with my other ancestors, I'd really like to know how my Canadian people sounded).😊
@Elelwyn3 жыл бұрын
@@julespumachu Canada's accents are usually broadly divided into urban and rural. The urban Canadian accent is actually quite close all over the country, with most of the differences being in our vocabulary and slang in general; our pronunciation of words is really hard to distinguish if you're from any big city in the country. Within the more rural sections of the country though, there's TONS of variety! What remains consistent though is our use of diphthongs - composite vowels, basically. The easiest one to spot is in the word "about". For most Americans, the middle of that word sounds like "ah-oo", while for most Canadians, it sounds like "eh-oo". For "aboot", you actually have to go to Scotland. Our "t" and "d" sounds are also usually identical, although you have to listen pretty closely to catch that one. :)
@diocletia13883 жыл бұрын
I honestly can't differentiate Canadian accent from generic US accent lmao. Speaking as an Asian, of course. And somehow RP, cockney and Scottish accent is easier to differentiate even though they are all British accent lol. Aussie sometimes got mistaken as a Southern Englishman and vice versa, but yeah Canadians are almost always get mistaken as their southern neighbour.

The funny thing is that, while extremely proficient, Sora's R's and L's aren't really perfect. Listen carefully to how he says "actually". I would never criticise that pronunciation outside of a context of discussing language, because we can all tell that Sora's pronunciation is as close to perfect as you could hope to reasonably achieve. If it makes you feel better, Sora, when I am abroad, people think I am German. Especially, if I am not in Germany.

When I was in school, shamefully, I though those who speaks English fluently are all native English speakers no matter where their countries are(I don't know why tho lol) Now that I have an experience of living abroad and communicating with people from other countries, I know relatively about other cultures. However, Japan is an isolated country so if I continued staying in Japan all my life, I'm sure that I was not familiar with other cultures at all haha
