I second this. Love the detailed breakdowns, but it would be helpful to see the construction of the deck. I’m good at adding 150-200+ cards to my new Brawl decks, very bad at cutting it back down to 100 for an actual playable deck lol

@@devonpiersol1207 That's definitely the most time consuming part! Splitting things up in categories helps, as you'll see where you have too many cards doing the same thing.

Check out scryfall if you haven't already. It's a database of all the cards and you can find creative ways to query relevant cards

Sorin is definitely one of the cards that looks much better in the alt art (the backside, especially). Love seeing you build him in Brawl!

Because he is one of the most "anime" Magic character. Antisocial, badass, edgy, bishonen face, pale skin, long white hair. Sorin drawn by Ayami Kojima is basically Castlevania's Alucard. The one drawn by Livia Prima in the thumbnail here, is basically Sephiroth.

Iirc Sorin was actually inspired by Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, so they invited Ayami Kojima, the author of that game's box cover, to do the alt art for Sorin in one of the recent Innistrad sets (Crimson Vow). To complete the circle of references. That was pretty cool, and that alt art is gorgeous too.

Wondering why authority of the consuls was skipped. I’ve been thoroughly impressed with it, as it protects flipped Sorin from hasty threats. Curious to hear your take.

It’s good but since it will usually gain life in the opponent’s turn it won’t synergise with Sorin.

@@LegenVD that makes sense, and I had considered that angle, I suppose it’s just another one of the 40 million life gain synergy cards available, and (having now watched the whole video) it doesn’t seem as though haste really was problematic. As always, your input provides a lot of value, thanks so much for taking the time to respond .

Chthonian Nightmare might be a good fit seeing as you’ve gone Lurrus companion and don’t need to worry about MV higher than 2

Opponents always scoop when the game gets interesting. That's why watching brawl is very irritating.

Well, the game usually stops being interesting to the opponent when it happens, it's generally quite clear when the win slips out of their grasp, so it kind of makes sense that people scoop when it happens, you aren't getting any rewards from losing on Arena.

Lingering Souls is not a permanent, which is what Lurrus cares about!

Shouldn't this be a monoblack commander? I've always thought that the U/B from Extort doesn't count as part of the color identity of a card?

It does not but the back side of the card is BW (all flipwalkers of the set are two colors even if they don't have their second color as a cost on the card)

Both sides of a card contribute to it's color identity, this is the same reason why Esika is WUBRG and not mono-green.

I tried the Sorin/Lurrus but after playing with it, I think Amalia/Lurrus is better. Amalia is so much more fun and consistent. Prefer Sorin in the 99.

Both are great options! Not entirely sure which is better. Sorin can be harder to interact with for some decks and gives the deck some added reach. Amalia is a great value engine and plays well with other graveyard recursion effects, so we're also more likely to get back Lurrus if it gets answered. Can't really go wrong with either commander.
