With a team that has 6 players in their box it gets hard, even with Beckham crossing. But if you give the ball to Beckham (or a good player with vision and can strike in the distance) then the opposition will always be on edge to what he is going to do. And, besides, Beckham in that game would cross the ball like 7-8 times, but he would find an unmarked player for most of his crosses. But given the opportunity of making 81 crosses, after the first 5, the game would be over.

Moyes was a god awful manager, but to be fair to him, it's next to impossible to break down a team who is defending with 10 defenders, i.e. the entire team parking the bus. Look at Chelsea vs Barcelona for example. The year that Chelsea flukes their way into winning a champions league. Even barca, the undisputed beat team in the world at the time, couldn't break Chelsea down The only thing you can really do is to punt it into the box and hope it lands in a way that's favourable to you and lets you score a goal. It's basically just luck. I don't think Ferguson would have necessarily done any different in this situation, he probably would also have told the team to play very directly and just keep getting it into the box somehow or some way. It's just that on top of that, Sir Alex was the best man-manager, the best motivator, to ever work in the sport of football, and so even with bad and luck-based tactics/tictacs, the team would have played out of their skin for the boss and would have won the match easily. Moyes's main problem is that nobody likes him. Nobody wants to play for the guy and do well in order to make him happy. He can't motivate them.

everton didn't play like that. west ham doesn't play like that. there was something in it. he thought the man united way was the wings... which it was but only to a degree. the players were told to play direct and cross. under alex ferguson the wing play was more shadowy/sneaky... this allowed plenty of space and time to cross. fullham read their play it was predictable.

LVG is in the same football school as cruyff pep etc and those passes mean a lot but LVG problem was he never had the creative fast players he wanted and also his transfers weren’t his firsts choices. For example Daley blind was a last minute signing. LVG in first season wanted Vidal, Vermelean, Hummels and imagine that accompanied by the attack we had at the time. LVG never got the transfers he wanted at all. Klopp and Pep were always giving full control and backing

Nani had a terrible time trying to cross balls into the box, rooney was in the best scoring form in his life, probably scored more headers in that season alone than his entire career. One thing is for sure. United players worked very hard under different management. By the end of some games, they looked like they’ve given it all and nothing is left in them, but fell short and it stays with the team for the rest of the season leading to further disappointing results.
