For vlogging autofocus is a king. But my guess that for wedding videos AF might fuck you up. For manual focus you need follow focus (like Tilta Mini, Tilta Nucelus Nano, Fogta, etc). It's better to miss 1 sec of focus using manual focus, than if you wedding video is autofocused on grandma instead of bride.

I agree with just about everything you mention dude but have to point out my experiences. I have a G9 and don't have the luxury of reliable auto focus so learning that manual focus isn't just for the pompous camera priest class, who like to tell us how it’s done when all they did was watch camera conspiracy video's from the future, yes we are in a time warp of discovery my friend. If I don't focus manually, it looks like I'm on a choppy ocean cruise sight seeing adventure in search of the elusive Sentinelese tribe of the Andaman Islands, lucky to escape with my life and well stabilized footage, thanks to Panasonic's amazing ibis, albeit with very blurry footage because I relied heavily and foolishly on contrast based joke auto focus (CBJAF). In fact the only way to capture authentic footage of Bigfoot is to use manual focus and reach beyond the foliage and into the unknown. Trust in Panasonic’s ibis, it will finally get the proof we need and won’t have to rely on Bigfoot Tony to stabilize endless footage for us.

When I am filming my drum covers while using three or four cameras, I have to manually set focus from far away and then hope, it will work later. Unfortunately it often doesn't... and yet professional videographers only use manual focus. (for the majority of projects) Vlogging I think AF is a requirement. Use Case is very important when deciding to manual or auto focus. A lot of what you're talking about is accurate. I personally shoot with 3 generations of Nikon glass. The old Manual focus only 50mm F2 focuses so well I don't even need to use the viewfinder to aquire focus whereas I literally can't do it with my G lenses. The D lenses I own I can't do it that well either unless macro. What I would say regarding manual focus use, I still think if you're sitting in an interview setup manual focus exceeds autofocus. Only if you're able to set up your aperture properly so regardless of moving back or forward you'll be in focus. I HATE HUNTING lenses.

@What Are You On About Oh ignorant one, yes I have. I went to the U.S., received excellent healthcare many times and I negotiated a discount of 30% off my bill and was given 12 months to pay. Many Canadians go to the U.S. for healthcare. I received surgery with no wait in Virginia, a barium swallow test with only 3 hours of wait in Chicago and I saw the top doctor on the Eastern side of the U.S. for $700. His fee was only $100, but he said I had to pay for the 6 illegal Mexicans in the waiting room that couldn't 'afford' healthcare. I paid the $700 but I noticed the illegals all had nicer shoes and more expensive phones than I did. They could easily have afforded the $100 regular fee, but they routinely scam the system.

@kyounokuma3 жыл бұрын
Filmmakers use manual focus for filming creatively no matter what brand of camera they use and regardless of whether or not the camera has AF. Most cinema cameras don't even have AF. They even have a camera assistant whose only job is to pull focus called, wait for it... A focus puller. It's the standard in cinematic filmmaking no matter the delivery platform. Filmmakers do like Panasonic cameras because of the great capture quality and video-centric features. I don't think that anyone would disagree with the notion that AF is definitely something good to have for vlogging. But vlogging is not filmmaking and filmmaking is not vlogging. That's why two different schools of thought exist on the use of AF. For filmmaking, because of the way shots are typically staged, manual focus is almost always more flexible and dependable and repeatable with few exceptions. For vlogging, it's a lot easier to just autofocus because the challenge is usually fairly simple... Track my face in focus. Now focus on this pen. For Panasonic users, a lot of us use our Pannies for both and were willing to tolerate subpar AF performance, for now, in exchange for all of the other goodness that we get from our cameras. Keep in mind, a lot of the features that are now in cameras like the Sony A7sIII and the Canon R5 were available in Panasonic cameras 3-4 years ago. Besides, The current AF in Panasonic's S series bodies is miles above what it used to be and is actually useable to a large degree for video. It's even faster and more accurate for photography than what a lot of competitors are offering.
