Each month The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation hosts a Meet the Scientist Webinar featuring a researcher discussing the latest findings related to mental illness. In July, 2022, the Foundation featured Dr. Dawn Velligan of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
Description: Many individuals experience continued symptoms for Schizophrenia and Psychosis despite the best medication treatments available. What are some of the therapy approaches that can help when medicine is not enough? How do these approaches work?

How do people, who don’t have the strength to get out of bed and avoid human contact, reach this one-on-one treatment program? And who pays for this? Feels like fantasy to me.

Force yourself to get out of bed. You are for other things. Get someone to take you or take an uber. There are places out there that do free or reduced treatment. You just have to look for it.

Medication is a big part of the problem. Need beeter ways to deal with Psychosis that are not as disabling as all present solutions. This is a major problem in America today. Untreated adults are everywhere. Just look around you.

Refreshing to see non-medication treatments. I wish these treatments were available broadly and for free.

The executive impairment is caused by the antipsychotics

I believe that is so. My brother has been paranoid schizophrenic since about 1976, but was considered a polymath science/math/music genius with Einstein-like IQ in high school. He developed psychosis in college and has been ill ever since and in an open facility now. Although he still is interested in those things, he's taken massive amounts of anti-psychotics and either that or the disease has changed him so much. He intentionally remains filthy, sometimes barely dressed, won't speak to people (except when forced a few seconds), stays in a tiny hot or cold room refusing excursions or activities for decades, and is doing nothing with the mind God gave him. It is very discouraging and tragic.

Orthomolecular meds are great for this. Reduced systems. Neuro mag. Is great for aniety and panic insomnia and anger. Also Omega 3 s. B comex. And v c. Also a good veggie diet will help. The neuro mag and omega threes are absolutely a must. Don't wait it works.

If you think that omega3 and magnesium will have any noticeable effect on this extremely serious mental cognition, you are diluted.

@@roman9509 You think you can fix brain damage with neurotoxines? Are you diluted? He's right, omega 3 helps the neuronal development and vit b complex in many cases, too, as b1 deficite causes Korsakoff syndrome and b12 deficite causes anemia and psychosis. Both cause brain damage.
