She wrote this when she was 16 or 17 years old, pure genius describing her life and feelings at this time. She was wise beyond her years and such a great singer and lyricist. The most uninteresting thing about her life was her problems with drugs alcohol and bulimia. She was one of a kind only Amy sounds like Amy and she sounded different each time she sings a song.

Heck, I'm straight as can be, but I have to admit, Amy is my girl-crush, lol. I just admire her swag, her beauty, her tough girl attitude - yet she was so vulnerabe. And she had no need or care to hide any of it with fake personas like most do. That's what I love about Amy...she was REAL. I'm like that too; ain't got no time to be anyone other than myself or put on a front just so others will "approve" of me. If they don't approve then pfffft, see ya, they're no one I'd want to associate with anyhow.

"Colorful and monochrome, Amy Winehouse alone" don't know why but this was always my favorite lyric from the song; it has always haunted me... I think it's cuz it's such a whimsical contradiction being juxtaposed with a statement that so starkly sums up the struggle that plagued her throughout her entire life. It somehow almost feels precognitive

We have to realize what a genius Amy was. No one sings like that. I call it "that" out of deep admiration and respect. Her artistic genius was and is unimaginable. To know her through her art is a march of folly. To imagine oneself sharing her thoughts as she navigates the windy tunnels of abstract expression is well...unimaginable. Unless you're Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix or any of a dozen or so truly creative, "mindbendingly" once-in-a-lifetime angels on earth. Words and music are Amy's two other WMMs (Weapons of Mass Music) and her lyrical skill set is a five-tool player: her ability to "haunt" her words and phrases, the mathematically impossible way she grows then sheds various intonations, definitive music genres, age-spanding voices from virginal, to teenage wonder, to troubled soul, to a woman in love with love, to a woman as alpha-male, to a woman in love alone. Amy gave us so much in such a short time. This song was meant to be on her Mount Rushmore. A mountain that may never be climbed by anyone but Amy. I mean will there ever be another Hendrix? No. There won't be. M

She just was/is the best. You hear another fabulous new voice come along, and you think wow, could be an Amy..... or similar, but then you hear Amy again, and you're left reeling in the knowledge that there will never be another Amy Winehouse. She was an extraordinarily exquisite singer, a passing star of such magnitude, nothing, not even she could contain it. Mores the pity.
@JJ212107 жыл бұрын
"Contain it" -- I assume that you've heard her speaking at the end of "A Song for You" on the posthumous album "Lioness", but if not: "Donny Hathaway ... he couldn't contain himself -- he had something in him, you know." Almost unbearable to hear it; I wonder if she really -- I mean *really*, 100%, knew that about herself and her music.

Waitress on skates, in trainin' They dart to call it dreaming Images present themselves to me Seeds are ripe for reaping I continue sleepin' You're everything you ever wanted to be And nothin' here is changing No messy rearranging Cause every set of ficus stays the same Sinatra's always singing And you do all the clinging And someone else accepts my place Whatever my imagination throws So rugged, growing rose When my eyes do close When my eyes do close When they close Turn and face my ceiling Deep in all the feeling Inhibitions turn to dust and fly away Stop my eyelids flickering With your petty bickering But this time I say what I got to say I hear my girl Dinah's playing And tree branches start swayin' Run over and sit right by the roof And I see the leaves are growing Little buds are showing Reach out a hand And bite into the fruit Whatever my imagination throws So rugged, growing rose When my eyes do close When my eyes do close Nothin' such a scrutiny Voiding purple mutual You are loving beautifully And it's fragrant beautifully Colorful and monochrome Amy Winehouse alone Far away from ringing phone at home I turn to stone, turn to stone And all the thoughts are static Yeah, my singing is automatic And I wish that I could sell it In my every urge you tell her Cause I can sense no danger I am the lone ranger Through the desert in a yellow caddy With a black haired blue eyed stranger! White dress outside drying I've been fear for flying I overtake Montgomery in skills, yeah Never been more daring Kitten heels I'm wearing Reality a blow that sometimes kills When I drop it lyrically Words evolve generically And I don't ever need to collapse in tears And I could curse your timing Thunderously miming And I feel young beyond my years Whatever my imagination throws So rugged, growing rose When my eyes do close When my eyes do close When they close...

Have you seen the 2015 docu? It's heartbreaking but also incredibly wonderful to see *her* -- home movies, an early interview in which she doesn't bother to hide her disdain for the pretentious interviewer (she's not rude, she's just *herself*). Everything that is true about who she was -- that combo of pain overlaid by playfulness, wit, sass, sex, impatience, rumination -- everything that makes her music explosively human and unique is there in the docu. Her loss still hits so many of us so hard -- one mark of a real artist.

Been listening to the late Amy Winehouse for the past few days, its almost like I rediscovered her music. It is very obvious she sang from her spirit, her voice haunting almost, it was like listening to a seasoned songstress move through her demons musically. The pain was obvious, she literally died for her craft, everyone loved her because she was the truth..and she wasn't afraid to expose herself, that is and was the vulnerability that is felt in her music..unfortunately, people who are super gifted leave earlier than later, we have them for a short time and poof that's it. Amy Winehouse rest in perfect peace.

Second time I’m watching her sing in a year. I couldn’t handle it anymore. I was afraid I’d start tearing. Her music helped me get through the worst period of my life. My whole life I wondered who was the greatest singer: Nat, Frank, Sarah, Ella, Barbara, Teddy, Marvin, Stevie, etc. When I discovered her a few years after her passing, I was in shock at the masterful combination of great singers and jazz singers that her vocals emulate and the genius of her lyrics. You can’t cover Stevie or Amy. For me Amy is number one with Stevie a close second. Coincidentally, I met her father at a Brooklyn Music Academy rehearsal and performance at a church where my two kids, VESSIO, shared percussion duties. At that point I didn’t know Amy was that good. I talked at length with her father. If I knew what I know now about Amy, I might have collapsed in front of him. It’s almost impossible to pick her greatest song and lyric. “When My Eyes” for me is one of the ten best songs I’ve ever heard. RIP Sweet Amy.

She was so well spoken early on, she’s using verbs I didn’t know and as a French person she sure expanded my vocabulary. She was really smart, book smart and street smart also

As far as I'm aware this was never officially released... I truly hope they release more work from the vault! I know they didn't want to release a ton of posthumous albums, but I just crave more of her music!!

I think you're right as far as it having never been officially released. I also think it could very possibly be her greatest song (in my humble opinion)
