WHEN ON HOLIDAYS FROM WORK I FARM. A LOT!

When I say today's video has a bit of everything in it I mean it. The holidays from work allow me to get so much done around the farm. From fencing, to moving, cattle, to topping, to tidying the shed, but most importantly the trailer was back on for it's yearly outing and things went better than in previous years

Karen don't put yourself down, I was a tractor driver for 50 years as an agricultural contractor, your hitching onto the trailor was ok and reversing out of the shed I could not see any problems with that at all, trust me I have seen a hell of a lot worse, you did ok be proud of yourself 👍. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

Grand job all round I would say, maybe a strong steel bar size of the pins though the arms to lift the trailer would be safer just set the block back slightly out of the way, also why remove the whole drawbar frame just remove the drawbar, maybe that’s seized up also on the pin at the front, little by little your making a dam fine job of things Credit to you.

Key to reversing a trailer is small gentle corrections with the steering. Don't be making big turns with the wheel unless necessary.

You did great backing up that trailer. My husband bought me my first trailer 2 Christmases ago. I refused to pull it for weeks. Practice has been the only thing making it better. I was terrified to pull trailers because my daddy had me parking boat trailers when I was a teenager. I tended to hook the trailers on stuff. Needless to say my endeavors as an adult have been much more successful. I won't pull anything over 16' though. Thank you for another great video.

Karen, it was nice that you met so many nice people at "Women in Agriculture" and you remember them. It is nice to make connections with ladies that do farming and give you encouragement. It was nice you met farmer Pete and farmer Phil. They made you smile when you talked about them. You have great driving skills especially when backing up to the trailer. Using the wood blocks and the twine then raising the arms was a neat trick so you could raise the trailer off the wood blocks. You like to have the barn looking clean and tidy which makes you feel good. Blessings to you and your father.

There seems to be a lot of rain coming. I'd put those big heavy cattle into the shed if the forecast is very bad to save your fields. Either that or feed them silage in one field that you don't mind destroying and reseed in the spring. The rest of the grass will grow while it's raining and that might make up for the extra silage you are out. Straw might be a good idea for feeding them to balance out very wet grass.

Don't be hard on yourself about the trailer. You did great, you hot it out first try and didn't hit anything. Counts as a success in my book. I've been haying for over 30 years and still struggle backing up a hay wagon. They are set up like a car, with two axles, but the front one steers. Keep up the good work, it is a joy to watch you.

I have seen quite a few videos you have posted. I was born and raised on a farm, maybe the size of yours. My heart is in agriculture. Your videos appeal to me a lot. It is not about you, your person and appearance, but about running a business, with the associated land and machinery. I have "played" farmer alongside a full-time job as an engineer with Galaway, Gotland fur sheep, Border Collie and Australian Kelpie and some poultry. Over the years I have acquired various aids, but do not need them anymore. I would like to donate them to you. I live in Denmark and do not know the shipping costs, maybe we can find a joint sharing of the shipping costs. I have a Kvernland pallet fork, 3 point lift, which can lift up to 1200 mm, as far as I remember, a hydraulic top bar, an A frame male/female and a two-way hydraulic switch. I will send that to you if you are interested, if we can work out something about the shipping cost. In one of the videos you say there is a little space between the 135 and the spreader when it is tightened. Tip, storage on a Europallet with 4 wheels, 360 ° rotatable in a lift arm raised horizontally will provide space and make handling easier and simpler to connect. If you want to protect yourself, a shipping company can probably secure the shipment anonymously. Huge respect for your commitment and dedication alongside your full-time job. I Can take pictures and find out the Wright and send to You Respect.

Hi Karen, This might be a help to you if you want to complete a fodder budget plan for the winter. Assuming that your bales were made in dry conditions, if you multiple the number of bales by 900kgs that will give you the total amount of silage you have in kgs. Each suckler cow will eat 1400kgs of silage each month. A 0-1 animal will eat 700kgs each month. A 1-2 and a 2+ year old animal will eat 1300kgs of silage each month. You said that you have 120 bales. This will give you a total of 108,000 kgs of silage for the winter. If you are planning for a 5 month winter, for example, this means that you will have 21,600kgs available for each month. If you work out the number of each animals that will be on the farm for the winter and use the above figures for each group, you will be able to work out your monthly silage requirements for the number of animals. This will allow you to plan ahead with regards to buying extra fodder if you don't think that you will have enough. My apologies for the long text 😅

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the way you raised that trailer! If you raised it 8 feet in the air and then went and stood underneath it then I too would say that it was dangerous but for what you did I thought it was brilliant and saved you a lot of work from getting out a jack and so on. The only people who would criticize you on that would be unionized factory workers who have never lifted a finger without supervision lol... Plus... The way you pulled the trailer out and backed it out; nobody could have done it any better! Trust me I have done that many many times!!! Great video as always, cheers from Canada

Excellent work on moving the trailer, I think you under estimate your abilities around the farm, like anything, the more you do it the easier it becomes. Some great advice I heard recently when backing a trailer, is to put 1 hand on the steering wheel at the bottom, as your guiding hand, then if you want the trailer to go left as you back up, move that hand slowly to the left.

The topping of the field…what a difference. Now let’s see what the grass growth looks like in a couple of weeks. The rope trick is a smart idea. How is it dangerous??? The tongue is clipped in, it’s only going to drop an inch. I think that there’s people out there who don’t feel right if they’re not criticizing someone for something they themselves have never done in the first place. I saw you in Farmer Phil’s clip, but sadly Farmer_P’s footage was corrupted.

I wouldn't cut myself at being rusty about reversing a trailer Karen, if you're doing it everyday it comes naturally but if you only do it a few times a year its hard to become expert at it. Also the 135 is not the easiest to steer at low speed without power steering as well I know. You're getting it done safely and that's the main thing.
