This is false. There are many channels dedicated only to harmless pranks. Didac Ribot and The Buttingheads are just some examples. Many of their pranks are just the prankster making a fool of himself to make people laugh at him, like having funny phone conversations on the escalator, fart pranks, reading books with embarrassing covers, watching embarrassing tutorials in the library, greeting ladies and then bumping into obstacles, etc, etc. It's a really sad state of affairs when so many people have no clue that harmless pranksters are probably even the majority of pranksters out there.

If a "friend" pranks me like these a-hole pranksters do, they probably won't be my friend anymore. Triggering people's fight-or-flight reactions is a good way to get hurt, or worse. I've been randomly physically assaulted out of nowhere before, so it wouldn't be a good idea to make me think I'm about to be the victim of another assault. The M.O. of a lot of these pranksters is the same M.O. as criminals who are about to hurt you. Some prankster went up to a stranger and was talking a bunch of nonsense, like a criminal would do - the guy shot him, and the jury recently acquitted the shooter, which was absolutely the correct decision by the jury. Making people scared is an attack, not a prank, and the pranksters should be arrested and charged with criminal harassment, including the people running the cameras.
