Wowsers. Not at all. You can't rip a piece off if it's over. Excess rollage will usually occur. Under allows you to kink the ripping edge for a clean tear. My old Sou Chef would flip a gasket if we put it on over. When dealing with product, you don't want to have to reinforce the grabbing of the paper towel with another hand. Over requires that.

One of the patents. Others show inwards. The original patent also has a wooden tube that grips the roll so it doesn't give excess paper when pulled. If we aren't doing it that exact way, none of us are following the patent.

It’s not “under” or “over.” Gravity works vertically. The paper hangs straight down. So the question is, WHERE do you want it to hang straight down? (1) On the side toward you, where you can see it and reach it, or (2) against the wall, where you can’t? Sane people answer (1).

Well, not everyone knows.... My (ex)wife put the toilet paper on correctly for 55 years of our marriage, but then she was diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer's. It wasn't long til she couldn't remember family members and friends. Of course I was empathetic to her struggles. One day while in her hospital bathroom, she noticed that the toilet paper roll was empty. She found an unopened roll, but she installed it backwards! Upon seeing this, I experienced a flood of negative emotions, extreme frustration, anger, sadness, all at once! Soon, the entire hospital staff found out what she'd done, and they wheeled her bed out onto the front sidewalk and left her there, while also having the police trespass her. In the meantime, I hired a divorce lawyer. There's no excuse for what she did! (🙃😉)

It doesn't matter what you do. People who put it on backwards do it for either of two reasons: A) they think it's right, or B) they don't care at all which way it goes, as long as it's there when they need it.

Or, they know the difference between right and wrong, but they have a pet, usually a cat, who will unroll the roll and then proceed to shred the paper, if it's installed in what is otherwise the right way. So to avoid having shreds of toilet paper all over your bathroom, and much of the rest of your home, and end up having to wipe with balled up handfuls of shredded TP, you install the roll the other way around and cherish not having to wipe like a barbarian and then try for weeks to rid your house of small strips of shredded TP that end up everywhere.

Ok, Hear me out: if you put the toilet paper like he (Brent) did it becomes wayyyy easier to pick it with one hand! You pull the amount you want, lock the roll with your wrist, and snap it... All with one hand! Pretty easy this way and very hard to do the same the other way around! ALSO, if you pull more "sheets" than you really need, pulling it back is way easier! You may come up with the excuse that the original Patent shows it Like JP wanted, but that is simple because it would be kind of hard to draw in a simple way the sheets if it was backward!

The claim of TP flowing "over" being more sanitary is a myth. It requires a second hand to touch the clean part of the roll to hold it still while tearing off a piece. That's not sanitary.
