At a school or not you can’t just brandish a gun. You can only pull it out if you’re in fear of your life. Doesn’t matter if it’s Florida, Texas, Alaska or here in Tennessee. You can’t just pull it out to make a point that you don’t like something. Only when you think it’s about to escalate to bodily harm.

My dad would tell the story of how back in the day, him and his friend (who were like 10 at the time) came across a bunch of framers working on a house. They began yelling obscenities at the workers and would run off before the tradesmen got down from the building. They did this 3-4 times on different days until one day, as they were walking up to the site, the workers appeared out of a treed area, ambushed them, and spanked them before letting them go. My dad ran home to his mom, told her the story of what happened and...ended up getting another spanking from her lol.

I worked with children like that 9-year-old. Once, I was a "shadow" for a 5th grader who was famous for throwing feces at a teacher. We are trained to hold them in a manner to prevent them from hurting anyone including themselves. Some of my "Non-Verbal Autistic Kids could get dangerous to themselves and others just out of frustration." But most teachers do not have this certification (and don't need it.) The boy probably suffers some sort of mental health issues and just cuffing him and waiting for him to calm down will not work. Fortunately, I only had to use those holds one time when the 5th grader attacked the councilor with whoever weapons he could find (rocks, scissors a chair...). As strange as it might seem. I really miss him and would have given my life to protect him if it ever came to that. You do build a bond with them, even those with problems.

What's worse is instead of calling the parents and not engaging the child so he can calm down, they call the cops making it worse. Putting a 9 year old in handcuffs and threatening jail is beyond ridiculous. It's not the parent's fault nor the kids. To say the parents were looking for a payday is ridiculous. They have a legitimate case. Unfortunately backwards states like Florida don't understand special needs very well. 🤦‍♂️

16:20 To be fair, dealing with kids with behavioral difficulties needs regular advanced trainings. I have some experience working with kids with behavioral issues, for the kid in 16:20 footage, we would just continue ignore/block self injurious or Aggressive behaviors with portable mats without restraining or talking to the kid cause that is still reacting to the behavior which could increase behavior. After 2 minutes of no problem behavior, we start communicating with the kid again. If it escalates, we repeat…

Re the 9 year old, I have a bit to add. Mainly, teachers would often like to offer a hug to a troubled child, but this is not allowed. You mentioned draping him with the blue mat; any idea like that seems like it would help. I was certified in teaching Special Education for Kindergarten-Adults for Mild to Moderate disabilities. I didn’t teach very long before I realized I was in over my head. I couldn’t entertain a classroom due to my limited creativity and knowledge of engaging classroom activities, and I don’t naturally command respect.I got out before I got my skull bashed in. Back to the 9 year old: Whatever interventions the teacher knows or has planned depends on what type of classroom he’s in, or where he’s been assigned. By Federal civil rights law, students ghave to be put in the “least restrictive “ environment where they can meet their goals. We don’t know this boy’s history or ability to learn. He might always be severely troubled since before he entered school. There are children who gradually recover from early childhood trauma by learning to do what you saw here, address what he was thinking and feeling while he was upset, whether it had curse words or not. This is probably included in his communication goals. After trying all they can do at this school, if it’s not working, they might try having “more restriction” such as transfer to a classroom with fewer students, more locked cabinets, or even places where the staff is allowed to restrain the students. The decision where to place a student is critical. It sounded like his teacher in this room was doing a good job of reassuring him by repeating familiar questions for him to answer. I hope he gets better control over himself and never makes it to the schools where the staff can restrain him.

Depending on the school (money) many are trying different ways to protect themselves from violent kids. I can only speak from my experience but kids are just abandoned by their parents now a days. The amount of kids failing school, becoming petty criminals, with parents who can’t even be bothered to show up to said school seems to have hit a stride in the last 3 years. Simple fact is, parenting is HARD and many who have kids are not prepared or want to make the sacrifices necessary to raise a child or children. If I saw that video of my kid my first concern would be his mental health and yet the parents knee jerk to a lawsuit smh it’s speaks volumes. The cop did cuff in the back and not the front which I thought was the case for minors but I’m not an expert. As a single mom kids are also getting more indoctrinated with outside influences than previously so that also has to do with parents needing to change how they raise their kids vs 20 years ago to Daz point. Unfortunately many don’t comprehend that point and adjust.

Please don't blame the parents for the 9 year old's behavior. I could tell he probably had special needs and looked it up and confirmed it. He also had a behavior plan in place with the school and the teachers were not properly following the plan. Some children with autism can sometimes be aggressive and it's not their fault, nor the fault of the parents. There is also absolutely no need to handcuff a 9 year old ever and threaten him with jail time. Absolutely ridiculous. The child was throwing things, but no one was in danger. His behavior plan was that the teachers were not supposed to engage him. They should have not engaged him and just called the parents not the police. If the school cannot handle the child they can then meet with the parents at an IEP and discuss his options. Typical for a backwards state like Florida to dismiss the parents legitimate lawsuit against them. I have 2 kids with Autism and people need to understand what's going on here.

It starts at home. Growing up in the 60s70s going to school here in Northern California, no way did any kid dare act like that kid with swearing, kicking, cops being called in. As kids, we knew who was boss and it wasn't us kids. There was respect for our parents and those in charge. I was glad to have grown up going to my schools where teachers were great. Yes, as we got older, there were some students who had troubles with school, falling behind, discipline problems and they got sent to an alternative school. That kid acting like that is insane....has to be from home. I will also say that there's a serious decline in qualified teachers, staff, curriculum is all messed up with the nonsense teachings of gay, trans, etc., allowing kids to have cell phones in the class... Do 2 minutes of basic research. The child obviously has special needs. I found the article that confirms that. Not only that, he had a behavior plan with the school in situations like this, which the teachers did not adhere to. It's NOT the parent's fault and not the kid's fault. Autism or Tourette syndrome can cause some kids to behave like this. The school not only violated the behavior plan by engaging with the child, but escalated the situation by calling the police. Putting a 9 year old child who was only throwing things and not a threat in handcuffs and threatening them with jail is COMPLETELY unacceptable. If the school can't handle the child, they need to can can IEP and tell the parents that so other arrangements can be made. Please don't be ignorant and think the kid or his parents are to blame just because he's different.

The kids today were never told No! It's the parents' fault for this behavior. I grew up in the 70s & 80s in the US. If we got in trouble at school, please do not call it our parents!! Do whatever you need to do at school - don't let our parents know! So many kids are so spoiled. never did anything wrong when they were obviously wrong, and got everything they wanted by having a tantrum. That tantrum may have worked with your mom when you were three years old, but it doesn't work with the police now that you are 30! It's time that the treat of 'just wait until your father gets home' comes back. (Even though he wasn't going to do anything and had no idea what was going on. ) If we would have EVER treated our teachers like these monsters today, we wouldn't be alive. We were to blame, not our teachers - which is still true today! But for some reason, patrents think their kids do no wrong. What is scary is if these kids behave like this at school (which is why there is a very high teacher shortage in the US), these kids must control their parents at home. Let's bring back discipline, and adults should not be afraid of kids anymore!

Having a gun on school property is a violation of federal law: The Gun-Free School Zones Act (GFSZA) is an act of the U.S. Congress prohibiting any unauthorized individual from knowingly possessing a loaded or unsecured firearm at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone as defined by 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(26). The law applies to public, private, and parochial elementary schools and high schools, and to non-private property within 1,000 feet (300 m) of them.

Not ture, the firearm can be in the vehicle, some state might require it to be in a locked container..courts have ruled this can apply to a glove box, trunk, or even inside the vehicle itself if its locked. This also didnt happen on school grounds or even within range of the school "possessing a loaded or unsecured firearm" Firearm being in the vehicle in a locked container, which can be the vehicle itsself based on you state, is not unsecured.

Teachers are allowed to defend themselves. But you better darn well be sure it was "self-defense". and you better have witnesses or video. The boy's mother looked like a drug user or about 85 years too old to be a mother.

I'm wondering that as well. He definitely has serious anger issues. Or he has some kind of underlying mental illness and needs to be under a doctor's care. I've been reading through the comments and I believe that this is more than just a kid acting like a brat who needs to be punished. There's something way off about this whole situation. Back in the mid-1990s;s I had a 3rd grade teacher tell me that they were starting to see a lot of young children coming in with serious behavioral problems because they were born addicted to drugs and that it was only going to get worse.
