Quality is quality (regardless of marketing and branding). I absolutely love the Seiko. Furthermore, I love that it will fly under the radar to all but the most avid/eagle eyed watch collectors out there. With that said, I'm not a guy who will ever own or want to own a Rolex. I even struggle with the likes of Omega and Grand Seiko. I don't like attention, nor do I want to advertise that I'm wearing a multi-thousand dollar timepiece.

I like both of these too, and I know that Grand Seiko isn’t known for their thinness, but one of these looks like you’ve strapped the Roman Colosseum on your wrist and will have to peer over those imposing walls to see the time.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 All facts! I'm still willing to wear this Seiko, but the GS SBGE 257 (green) is king to me.

I made my choice, it's the LX GMT on my wrist now. the spring drive, rotating bezel, overall similar quality won me over from the GS label. I go with practical first, pretty next, label last. I have no problem with the bigger size and thickness. I kinda like it, when it wears so well. the bling factor despite no precious stones or metals is unmatched. ♥️ my LX

Both are beautiful time pieces. Can't go wrong with either one.

I couldn’t agree more with you, the movement with that smooth secondhand is exquisite. I have the Grand Seiko snowflake, so the Spring Drive is familiar to me. So this is one time that I would prefer the Seiko over the Grand Seiko. Kudos to you and your taste in this selection.

Your comparison videos are incredible, BW. Thank you for this closer look. These are both awesome. ❤ ⌚(edit: I like the LX a teensy bit more, for that classic styling.)

Wow stunning looks at these watches! Thank you. I'd take the Seiko. Spring drive and there's the capability to go relatively low key when the situation arises.

Bruce, I am genuinely in awe, of Grand Seiko, these days. But in this instance, I do have to agree w/ you, and I think that this may be a situation, that we see more frequently, in the coming future. At this point in time, if there were only one watch that I could own, for the rest of my life....it would be the SLGH005 "White Birch." Shout out to, Bruce "Senior," for that spectacular prior acquisition!!! The man has great taste.... IMHO

Why does the LX have to be so thick for only 10 bar water resistance?
@marcocastagnetti70862 жыл бұрын
I wounder what seiko's stratagie is, blurring the lines between Seiko lux range & GS and also you would of thought that the spring drive movement would of only been used for GS, can't work it out personally.
@loganholmberg22952 жыл бұрын
The Seiko is a Spring drive. If you can afford it always go for the Spring drive. Its an amazing mvmt. Its accuracy can only be beat by a very good quartz watch or a atomic radio watch. Its basically a electronically regulated auto...how does that have no soul? That being said if you want a rolex explorer 2 but don't want to pay rolex prices OR wait 3 years to get one, the Grand Seiko is the watch to get. Especially the quartz version witch is designed to be user serviceable (battery and even regulation if by some miracle it needed it) and can be afforded by most if you save.

Great review Bruce. I have a couple of Seikos and for good or bad, the SNR051and SBGM247 is an example of Seiko blurring the lines between Seiko and Grand Seiko.

These two Seikos I think are better than any of your collection Mr. Bruce Wayne! 😎🦇
@raidmaster74202 жыл бұрын
Surely, I am not seeing correctly? Is that a $5500 for a Seiko LX?
@yz80962 жыл бұрын
The SNR051 wins as far as I'm concerned. Love the 5R66. Both watches carry alot of value for the money but the 051 has GS attributes that make it very attractive at an LX price.

Owned two of the LX sold one kept one and I attest to BRUCE'S point of view the details are identical but I prefer the sportiness of those seikos as I always say seiko is the one to get for sports pieces and grand seiko for elegant and heritage more formal pieces either way both are great and somehow lug to lug fits wrists at 7 inch and above its just chucky for the LX but it's a tool watch and so is tudor gmt
@morgan974752 жыл бұрын
Both look great. But what Seiko has been doing is confusing. What's the point of Grand Seiko & if Seiko is going to put out a $5000 watch with Spring Drive in it? I'm good with my old Seiko 5. I know what it's supposed to be.

By far one of your most important topics. Us watch people don't need to get duped by GS if regular Seiko makes something similar for thousands less.

Agreed; great video! The LX is too chunky for me (6.75 inch wrist) but love the design and all. The GMTs I've come closest to pulling the trigger on are the GS SBGE series, especially the SBGE257 in green, which I'd find a bit more similar (though smaller at 40.5mm) to the LX, though a bit flashier with some polished center links and that does feel a bit scratch-prone to me for a sports watch. On the dressier side, I have a GS SBGA201 which I absolutely love, though tend to baby it as that zaratsu shows scratches so easily. Little off topic but related, the odd thing to me is that GS hasn't done more with divers as Prospex is the king of variety and as you point out they certainly don't mind competing and at times have even encouraged it!
@yz80962 жыл бұрын
I like the SBGE257 as well (alot) but I did buy the SNR051 and I love it. I'm a 6.75" wrist as well and the SNR051 is easy to wear with no problem at all. The planet Ocean GMT I was going to get was 17.2 mm Thick! I think the SNR051 is a much better choice for me. I may still get a 257 as well, I just wanted to suggest to you that you might be pleasantly surprised by the way the 51 wears. Best, -YZ
@loganoftherockies94532 жыл бұрын
@@yz8096 Thanks so much, and yup, I've seen videos with folks with 6.75 inch wrists and as you said it does really wear quite nicely. I'm in a smaller phase at the moment...was all 42 - 44mm divers for a while and now have been in a Speedy 38 mode...

I have a problem with the Grand Seiko. I have this watch with the blue dial. When I first got the watch I wore it all the time.. love the looks and feel of the watch. My issue came to quality control. I had the watch for 2 months and the black ink or inlay for the numbers on the bezel started coming out of the numbers. So I have half a bezel with no black lettering and the watch looks like crap. As much as I don't like Rolex, you never see an Explorer II missing the black from the numbers on the bezel.

the indices, hour and minute hands finishing on the LX Seiko looks cheap , ruining the nice textured dial. Looks like citizen promaster diver dial. Previous LX design looks much better than this.
