I have had amalgam in my upper molars # 1, 2 & 15 for 38 years, they have oxidation. Would removing amalgam and replacing them with cast gold inlays be the way to go.

Great discussion, thanks! Regarding biofilm removal prior to bonding, wouldn’t air polish be better than sandblasting? It wouldn’t etch the tooth unnecessarily.

A lot of Dentist’s today have not been trained in the conservative use of cast gold inlays and onlays. Dental gold restorations is a lost art. Gold is malleable, biocompatible and the thermo expansion is similar to the natural teeth. Gold does not tarnish and can last a lifetime with routine dental appointments and proper cleaning. Gold in the posterior is still the best option than any other materials. Zirconia is harder than the natural teeth causing more serious wear on the opposing teeth. To place zirconia crowns, inlays etc; you have to remove move tooth structure and with gold restorations you don’t.
