When Should You Give Up On Your Marriage | Paul Friedman

I know all about giving up on marriage because before I shifted all of my clients had given up on their marriage. They were good people like you, like your spouse but they didn't know what to do. They had exhausted all of the suggestions, all of the ideas that they had come across and it was just torture to remain together. The way I began, and I'm going into this for your benefit so you can understand that I didn't just develop like cute little ideas, little homework things, and stuff like that that you would normally get at a marriage counselor. I came up with a step-by-step process and it begins with, and I'm going to go through these steps now for you. Because I don't want you to give up on your marriage. Briefly, I'll tell you when you do give up on your marriage. You give up on your marriage if your Spouse is a pedophile, a gangster beating you, beating your kids really extreme cases. Then you got to say, "You know what, this isn't working out," but usually, that's not what's going on. Those cases are very extreme so there are steps that I discovered work and I offer these steps in our courses for men and for women, and I've written a couple of books but I'm going to take you through these steps because they are so valuable.

@@Naan795 unfortunately it did not. We are divorced and I raise my twin autistic sons alone. It is heartbreaking and a challenge. It broke me thoroughly in every way, and seeing my kids go through it all is even harder. Although I still think therapies and counseling are critical, for me it made no difference. I hope for some it can or does.

What do I do if my husband has abused me physically and verbally but it was only because I was packing to leave him. He never abused me any other time but if I tried to leave. It was like he wanted to scare me into staying. I'm not looking for his behavior to be excused but I feel in my heart that we did not know how to be Married but we both tried hard. And then this happened. He's currently in jail because of that behavior but I still love him and I wonder every day all day and night how we would be if we knew how to be Married and how to evolve together. My wish is to work out my Marriage but everyone has been telling me to leave him but my heart just won't agree just yet. Should I follow my heart or the court? I just feel like I could have been a better wife. I did my best with the knowledge I had at that time.
