Brian you have again hit it out of the Park..... explaining the stitch “plugs” as well as the reason for the sole nails..... you have learned so well, your teacher should be proud of you! I certainly am and we have not met yet! You really make me miss doing shoe and boot repair... Your Sole Brother in Colorado Bob. 🥾

I love how you went the extra mile in making the boots beautiful as well as functional. The treatment on finishing the sole and heal base to make them look better than brand new. Taking something and bringing it back to new is great, but taking a boot and making it better than it was when it was new was really fabulous. I love watching a craftsman, not just a cobbler. You are young and possibly pretty new to the craft, but you have the desire to be a true craftsman. Loving it! PS I also loved the video you did where you introduced and talked to your boss, mentor, friend. Keep up the great work and never lose the idea that your profession is a craft and to be a true craftsman you need to continue to make your work product better than brand new.

Was all the Landis equipment (stitcher, finisher, sander), leather cutter/skiver, Singer sewing machine, Naumkeag and hand tools passed down to you? Seeing you use the tools and equipment brings back memories of my grandfather and father when they owned a shoe repair shop as well as myself from 1956 to 1964 before joining the Army. Keep up a dying trade and tradition.

Wow , Brian you are a true artisan . I remember growing up in Chicago and across the alley from me was the back of a shoe/bootmaker shop . My father would take his shoes there to get repaired . The old Italian man would make them look beautiful . Not too many of those shops around anymore. People just throw their shoes or boots away and get new ones. Great video

Did the owner wear these boots every day for 8 months? Like the car ads “your mileage may vary” is likely relevant as some walk on cement, gravel, grass etc. Rotating boots with a day rest with shoe trees is a good strategy. Great video.

I’m curious how you replace a half sole like this with all the stitching. It seems it would almost require a recraft with new midsole and possibly new welt. Is that correct? Maybe you already have this in another video so I’ll look for one. Thanks for your finely produced videos and for teaching us more about this beautiful craft. I love your boots 😊 and would also love to see boots made by your teacher and mentor. That would be awesome! Love you guys!!!
@logansmith9437
@logansmith9437 4 жыл бұрын
You are correct for a sole that is stitched all the way through. The point of the Goodyear welt is that it allows for the sole to be removed with the welt in tact. Unless you want to customize it, the welt is reusable and the same holes are used to attatch a new sole.

They look like new! I really like those boots. I personally would prefer black sole & heel but I can totally appreciate them with the white. What you said about the heel height made sense. Thanks for sharing that information. I had been looking at it as an aesthetic consideration. I didn’t realize how that impacts posture and comfort. You are so knowledgeable. Maybe you might write a book sometime. That would be so kewl. 👍☮️🌞🥾
