It's true that people around us fear that they will lose us when we take to KC. It's true because we grow up & transform. And the person they knew is visibily dead in every aspect from preparing food or shopping or dining or dating & every other choices we earlier made as part of the social community. It's a challenge, when we take to spirituality & our family doesn't, the rift & division becomes clear & distinct. You nailed it by saying empathy for those around us is critical, else while we rise in bhakti but at a grave cost of losing family members.
