(he named it Lupi spuma = "wolf foam"). The 2nd part "ram" comes from Middle High German "räm" for soot/grime/dirt because Wolfram can be easily grinded and then looks like soot. Also "tungsten" was initially used by the german-swedish chemist Carl Wilhelm Scheele for not tungsten itself but calcium tungstate.
