cats get excited when their owner opens a food bag, definitely. But their excitement is focused on you. they recognize you as a provider and are showing that by rubbing you as you set the food down. The automatic feeder with its distant noises and lack of owner interaction engages a cats primal hunting instincts more. They associate it similar to hearing prey scurrying about. hence the strong reactions seen in the short. Good owners should feed their cats both ways, as both methods are enriching in their own ways for your cat. if you rely on the automatic feeder, the cat wont see you as a food source anymore,. They are essentially "hunting" as nature intended. slowly over time diminishing that part of your relationship with your cat
@brexitgreens26 күн бұрын
@@jessica33313 I suspect these factors in overeating: • *Lack of choice.* Connoisseurs don't overeat. • *Boredom, depression, anxiety.* Food becomes primary excitement or comfort. • *Availability.* Let the cat work for its food: by hunting, searching, extracting. It's not cruelty - cats love games more than food. Just like the Romans! • *Sedentary life or disability.* "Overeating" is a human idea. There's no such thing. The only thing is not using the energy they take in from eating.

SAME! Seems almost.. I don't want to say cruel but.. unnecessary maybe? I just imagine if I was hungry and couldn't get myself food, that would suck. I've had animals my whole life, always put food in the bowl when it was low, never had an overweight animal. so maybe I just don't understand the need. it seems kinda lazy honestly. and pets are appreciative when you feed them, I like that part, they know who takes care of them. Idk maybe is just me. But presently, the cat we have does come running whenever we use the ice maker in the fridge lol. he doesn't want the ice lol, I have no idea what that's about
@ladymoon1638Ай бұрын
I still do this ... Hate the auto feeders... They don't feed enough... Cats can learn to feed themselves just enough as long as you start them with full bowls at a young age... If they over eat as kittens they'll learn from that uncomfortable feeling and eat less next time... The auto feeders are under proportionate and the few times I tried using them my cats quickly started showing signs of food aggression... Which is also seen in human children as food insecurity when not fed enough... Simply put I definitely think the auto feeders are neglectful...
@Skyrem-dm7hjАй бұрын
@ladymoon1638 yea I couldn't do that with my cat. She was an adult when I got her and was already overweight. She goes crazy for food and will eat untill she throws up so I can't give her food all at once. Just understand that every cat is different. You are describing a very specific scenario in which you have a kitten that you raise which is not always the case. Just like how my story is not every story. I hope you learned something from this comment but I highly doubt you will.
@Skyrem-dm7hjАй бұрын
@sarahsmith1373 I think it's just as lazy to leave a bowl out all day. Think about if for a moment. I have one of those feeders with multiple compartments in a rotating tray. My late kitty would sit in front of the feeder for an hour before it was due to go off, staring at it as if she were trying to use The Force to move it. She'd occasionally meow loudly at it to see if that would be effective. My kitty now sits on the cat tree platform above it for an hour-plus before it's time, mewing softly like a kitten (she's four) about every twenty seconds. Her adorable kitten voice is quite effective on the humans, so why not the Food Bearer. She will stare at it from above. She has perfected this incredible gymnastic move when it turns: she leaps up, turning mid-air, and lands with her body perfectly aligned so her face goes straight into the bowl and she can begin eating as soon as she's on the floor.

Cats are very smart when it comes to food Mine wait for me looking through the window waiting for me to arrive They always look down at my hands first to see if I’ve got a bag of KFC When I don’t have any I get a very disappointed look from them both

The cats think that you are coming back from hunting and that is why they look at you like that. If you want your cats to admire you, always bring a healthy treat in your hands when they see you arrive and hand it to them right after you eat.

i keep watching these kitties over and over. they’re hilarious!!!! 🐈⬛🐈🐾🌷🌱 (i do hope they get wet food as a meal though. only being fed the dry stuff is not good for them.)
@Blitterbug14 күн бұрын
Yes. Wet food twice a day, but dry food on demand. I'm sure these owners know that. Though for some moggies a complete mineral/vitamin/protein dry mix only is needed.

Dang you would think these cats were starved.😂 I don't have an automatic feeder. My cats free feed on dry food and get wet food twice a day. They don't eat all of the dry food. They know when to stop.😻

One of mine gulps down dry food until he pukes. You'd think he would learn after the first few times, but I'm pretty sure he shares one of his two brain cells with the orange cats of the world.

@@Akurokumathis is what I’m saying, everyone in the comments saying they’re being starved don’t realize there’s just some fatass cats out there who will eat till they puke 💀 like my own.
