Having gone through this myself I look back and realize how stupid i was. How manipulated i was yet still knowing I am the only one to blame. When you have everything you ever wanted and gave it all up for nothing. Yet seeing her now happily married gives me some sort of silver lining; knowing she won at life even though im miserable without her. "Live life with no regrets" but knowing you screwed it all up for someone with ill intentions makes that impossible to live by. Always thinking of her, hoping at a second chance of winning at life with someone new, but knowing no one will ever come close to what you had with her. Well done on capturing how crushing that feeling is knowing what you have done without being able to have any control once you have crossed that line.
@alex.polychronopoulos448723 күн бұрын
If you have faith, Christ has taken on your burden and told you to move on and sin no more. If you don't, good luck. There's technically nothing stopping you from working on yourself, and making up for past mistakes with acts of charity. Who knows, maybe you'll find someone new in that setting. Ideally, someone who you can open up to for mistakes of the past...

I agree with Alex. God is the only one who can overpower evil in your mind. We are weak without Him. Like in the skit, if Mikey had believed in God’s words, he would have had the strength to cut Claire off and save his loving relationship. He would have known to mark and avoid people like Claire AND have the mental fortitude to follow through. Anyone who places their trust in Christ Jesus can have a brand new story. The weight of guilt from the past vanishes and is replaced with a peace that is hard to explain. Before I believed on The Lord, I hated myself for my sins. Now that I’m saved and forgiven, I look back on my mistakes and realize that I can view them through the filter of life lessons without the emotional turmoil of the memories. It’s more objective and easy to process. ❤

I wish they’d workshopped the dialogue a bit more for a scene that’s so dramatic. I know that this is just a little bit of serialization (as a treat) in what’s usually a lighthearted irreverent comedy, but if someone you loved cheated on you and let you down in such a catastrophic way, you’re gonna be having a massive identity crisis. So it’s a bit jarring for her to be so put together and calmly stating “I have respect for myself” and to have already moved her feelings for him into the past tense I *loved* you. “Now get out of my way.” was excellent tho. :) That felt really natural and the delivery was perfect. Because holy shit, imagine loving a guy so much that you take the time to put up all those decorations and write such a thoughtful card, only to have him shit all over it and dump you for someone as insane as Claire’s character…

Mikey - perfect portrayal of realiitzation, regret and pain. You can read his mind as he sits on the bed in front of Claire in the end. Props to montage and direction, sound design with those clicks when he remembers. We all been there, this feeling of a bullet needle painlessly piercing the eyes as you close them tightly, while shriek of helpless pain is boiling up the throat, as your face contorts in moment of self-loathing. Emily - to the point, ideally. betrayal, anger and confusion. Amazing. Truly, and to the point. Almost unrealistic in how well she delivered the line in the end! And God she has an expressive face, the way her face and voice tone changes from anniversary to breakup mode is just so believable. Emily: the snap back between the loving girl and the manipulative ignorant child is the moment the door closes. Amazing. She's definitely my favourite, pulling off the impossible balance between too exaggerated, and exacerbated but believable. Her character is over-the-board, but the way she handles herself and the way you guys wrote in the fact that everybody understands how grotesque her behaviour is, amazing. Been there, done that. My "Emily" Came back at me by treating me literally the same way, 6 years later. Dumped her for a manipulative friend we've been on and off for longest while. The "date"(tho we did hook up), the talk about breakup, the breakup itself, it literally happened almost that way, mind "Claire" not actually ever meeting "Emily". Masterpiece. Love it.

@@Karttibone Claire is the only guilty party in this. Mikey is just a simple man who never got anything he ever wanted, so he had to settle. Settling doesn't feel great. No matter how much good him and whatever her face was shared, it was never true love because Mikey knew deep down that's not what he wanted. Saying he's the bad guy for being shown women that look 11/10 his whole life in everything he's ever watched only to be told he deserves a woman that almost looks like a man, well, men don't work like that. The only thing women have going for them is their looks. Just like how to women the only thing men have going for them is their height, looks, income, family values, friend group, body count and future prospects. Saying men want too much for a woman to just look passable is absurd. I settled repeatedly and repeatedly got burned because women have no capacity for love. Man I really wasn't expecting this to hit so hard to home, but it did. Long ago when I was 25, I had an "Emily" in my life. To this day I think she was still the only girl that ever really loved me, and understood me for who I was. Fast forward a bit, I started a new corporate job and found me a "Claire". One thing led to another and I found myself breaking up with "Emily", lying through my teeth as I did it. I felt awful. I still do. Since then I've grown older, and wiser and learned a thing or two. While I resolve to never make that kind of mistake again, I carry with me the weight of that fateful decision. The pain never goes away, you just learn to live with it.

oh my god. This is actually so insanely well done. Story - great, execution - great, cinematography - great, acting - great. I felt real pain watching this. This is real. This is me reading too far into it, but I think of the saga like this. Mikey has super low self worth and has spent years fighting for any sort of validation from the first girl to give him attention. His best friend Claire. Validation that has been strategically withheld to keep him wrapped around her finger. Addicted to her praise, which most of the time he wasn't good enough for. So he fights harder and harder to earn that praise that never came, breaking him down even more. A light enters into Mikey's life as he finds Emily. A caring, thoughtful, and attentive partner that starts to show him what love is. He's happy! But not full. His addiction still existed, but was in submission... Until Claire realized she was losing control of him. She gives him what he's been denied for so long, and he's hooked. The shame tells me he knows it's fake. He knows she's using him, but he can't get over the high he feels at the hand of his abuser. He knows he is broken, which is why he wants to let that light (Emily) leave. In his eyes he is not worthy of her love. After Emily leaves, and Claire realizes she has won, she says the line "I'm not sure I'm feeling the 'breaking in the bed' thing anymore, maybe we just watch a rom-com?" once again withholding intimacy, and sinking Mikey deeper into the cycle of codependency and self hatred, only to make it harder to break out of later. The tale of Abuse. Everything in this is so subtle, but so loud at the same time. People that don't take the time to analyze the story may not have seen what I'm saying, but the video is so well done that I can almost guarantee they felt it. Well done. This is art. I hope to shake your hand one day

LONG COMMENT WARNING - I seldom comment on KZbin videos, but this one is a little different. It has stirred the rise of ghosts, unbidden, from their graves.... Autumn, 1973, head over heels in love with a dark eyed girl. We'll call her 'S'. God, I loved her so much. Found her holding hands with her new boyfriend. That image is seared into my memory; the years have dulled the pain, but as it's noted in LOTR, some wounds never heal completely. Emily brought all of that back to me... 1975, same song, second verse. This girl we'll call 'B'. She broke up with me to go back to her first love. They married. Years later I learned that they were divorced - he beat her, almost killed her. I felt only sadness to learn of this. If I was walking in Emily's shoes in 73 and 75, in 79 I took Mikey's part. Horrible. She deserved so much more than I was willing to give. Months later, I sought her forgiveness - and she gave it to me. We were married in 1981, and we're still going strong, two great kids, now adults on their own. We're getting ready for our granddaughters 3rd birthday party. The acting here is so good, it's easy to wonder if they actually ARE acting. Kudos to you guys, for sending me back in time to another place, another lifetime. You made me feel things I haven't felt in so many years, and I'm grateful for that.
