I think you need to give Tony C Smith a lesson on how to grow carrots. Great haul Mark. What a strange growing season this has been for us all

Thats what always intrigues me, tiny little seed and you get a massive plant! Ive done Globo, and redspark onions, Elista Shallots, they were all amazing, i need to weigh my biggest onion, has to be at least 2kg! Dont talk to me about carrots, i had some sweet candle doing really well, rats started to help themselves, icing on the cake that made me decide to call the allotment a day at the end of the year, installed raised beds at home and can grow what i want without the 🐀 🐀. Well done!!
@marksallotmentplot2 ай бұрын
Ohhh Anita I feel your pain on the carrot front. Pretty much all my sweet candle got nobbled by the rats last year! That reminds me I need to harvest the rest of them a lot sooner this year!!! Shame you're giving up your allotment but hope you manage to get some veggies on the go in the new raised beds at home 👍🌱👍
@anitahaywood98272 ай бұрын
@@marksallotmentplot its fine, up to 7 raised beds at home, got big tanks for carrots and the hubby has built me a wooden polytunnel 😊, inspired by Jessie! Im loving the fact when im working from home i can nip out and water etc. Dont have to have the allotted time to go to plot!

I just don't understand this obsession people have with perfect, straight carrots. I never thin carrots, and I love them all, forked, twisted, small or large, wrapped around each other. They're carrots with character. 😄😊😋
@marksallotmentplot2 ай бұрын
It's the challenge of trying to grow them nice and straight that I do it for 😊 I have no doubt there's be plenty of wonky ones in there to come as well though. They'll all get eaten the same 👍🌱👍

We grew chantennay carrots a few years back (short stubby carrots with fab flavour). Two intertwined themselves like a corkscrew and made a fabulous heart shape ♥️.

Lovely harvest Mark, those red onions are huge. It shows good crops can come from cooler weather regions and, of course, poor crops can come from regions that are too hot for them. It is swings and roundabouts and choosing the crops that fit your particular climate. Well done again.
@marksallotmentplot2 ай бұрын
Thanks Brenda. 👍🌱👍 You're absolutely right about growing the right crops in our climate. Although judging by the rain outside at the moment I'm not even sure what our climate is any more 😂😂😂

I built a carrot 🥕 bed this year having watched your videos. Double height pallet collar, filled with a mix of soil, compost and sand. By far the best I’ve grown. Slight amendment next season, mixing a bit of perlite in when I top it up 🎉

W❤W Mark those carrots and red onions are amazing!!! I joined the masses in growing the onions from seed in January but mine were tbh pants! Maybe I didn’t look after them properly. I remember yours going the ground quite small, I think I thought that was too small to go into the ground at the time. How wrong I was indeed well done the man!

The carrots look so perfect, I'd be so chuffed to grow some that good. The onions looked great too! I've managed to pick up some Senshyu onion sets to try overwintering but will also get some Sturon as they did great for me this year. Not had any luck growing from seed but definitely a challenge I'll have a go at again next year.

Haha you guys have had a worse summer than us in the south this year, and ours has been so grey with the odd few days of summer teasing through. Those red onions are incredible as are your carrots. Amazing size! All mine early ones got complete eaten off and I gave up sowing them in the beds and have sown some late quick growing varieties in my spent potato compost in buckets with copper tape around the outside. They have all survived so far so hoping to get a late showing of carrots before it gets too cold and wet. Great stuff!

Hi Mark. Chipper as ever. Lovely carrot and onion harvest. Mind you don't get cold knees lol. Nights are getting darker quicker, don't you think? Take care, Elaine 🌱

Another bumper crop Mark, well done! Tried a few different varieties of carrots this year but wasn't hugely impressed with the flavour of any of them (although all way better than shop bought!) so I think I might give Sweet Candle and Touchon a try next year. I did like the paler coloured carrots from a rainbow mix pack of seeds I was given though, they had a slight savoury turnip taste mixed with the sweet carrot taste, which was nice, so I'm gonna grow those ones again.

Our carmen f1 seeds turned out to be marketmore cucumbers. I wasn't impressed. Our courgette plants haven't grown big enough yet to produce a flower but I live in hope Fantastic carrots & onions there Mark! Happy birthday to your mum 🎉🎉🎉 Bobby dazzler - I've not heard that said in a while 😅
@marksallotmentplot2 ай бұрын
Carmen F1 are my go to cucumber each year. Never let me down. The price of the seeds for them always seem to be on the rise though. Hope your courgettes flower soon. Mine were terrible last year but tried them out in a different bed this year and they seem to be thriving 👍🌱👍 I don't think I've said 'bobby dazzler' for years either and then say it twice in one video. No idea where that came from 😂😂😂
@Jacqui-Pen2 ай бұрын
I grew carmen f1 last year & i was very impressed with them. Im going to order some new seeds for next year. I also grew mini munch this year & theyve been prolific. Just disappointing my other cucumbers turned out to not be the seeds I ordered.. one@marksallotmentplot

Blaming you Mark! - sowed carrots in 30 litre tubs for the first time after slugs et al munched off the earlier efforts in the veg.beds . Must be around 500 carrot plants in each tub. So a video on how to deal with that please would be welcome🤣
