Ladies, you are totally amazing... I only discovered Katzenjammer about 3 1/2 yrs ago & turned my neighbor on to you - we're now great fans, although it's sad that Marianne felt she needed to leave the band... I do hope Marianne finds joy & success in whatever endeavor she pursues... it's a shame my late wife didn't live long enough to see & hear you as well - she would have absolutely loved the talented & amazing ladies from Norway... hopefully Marianne will either return to the fold or Katzenjammer will find a way to keep their particular brand of fantastic music going (Solveig & Turid's "Am I Wrong" cover is fantastic)... warmest & best to you all... -Bob W

It's called a Balalaika- it's thought to be russian in origin. hard to get in the states and such, but they are awesome :)

actually, 'keeping the beat' is a fairly important role--given that parts of the song rely heavily on the the beat--including the otherwise-acapella segment. so, it's pretty cool she can play a couple more things on top of keeping the beat.
