When the Lightning Strikes Your Tree!

With all the storms we had this weekend, what do you do if a tree gets hit by lightning? Sometimes it depends on how bad it was but other times like this one there is nothing you can do. Notice in this one how the damage goes from the top all the way to the base and into the root system. It’s basically a death sentence to the tree. The power can be so great that it will blow bark 20-40 feet away from the tree. In the event the lightning strike doesn’t kill the tree, it is now prone to damage from other things like bugs that will surely finish it off. It will typically take up to a year for it to look completely dead and you will need to have it removed. Hope this helps!

I had a ginkgo tree that was one of my favorite trees get struck by lightning and fell on my car! I put a cross made with sticks where the tree used to be so I can remember it… RIP ginkgo tree

Happened to us today. Pine tree 50 plus feet tall, hit up high, nice spiral coming down, dirt blown away at the bottom on two sides; it traveled to the house and cracked the concrete gutter splash block. Too bad it was a beautiful tree.

Approximately what would it cost to have a tree that size removed? Lighting hit my pine about that size. What would it cost to remove? We live outside of Paris Texas and got hit by some strong storms yesterday. We are seniors and I'm concerned..

Our neighbors tree looks like this, had lighting strike yesterday. What do we do? It's an oak tree, should we cut it, worried if it's dead, could tree fall on house after tree dies.

What we've seen most of the time, the tree dies. They may want to get ahead of it and cut it down.
