"War does not determine who is right - only who is left." -Bertrand Russell I pray for every family that has lost a loved one to the horrors of war, no matter which side they fought on. Those were human beings, and they had families. They fought for what they believed was right, they made the ultimate sacrifice, and it doesn't matter whether their cause was just or not, they were simply pawns in a chess game played by people in offices. Yes, I'm American. I know my country has done atrocious things in the name of war, and too many of my countrymen have given their lives to serve a master that does not care about them. I have 2 grandfathers that served in WWII, and not once have I ever heard them say "Boy, I'm glad I fought in that war, all of my dead friends would be happy not seeing their families as long as we won"

@@AthelstanKing The myth of Soldiers being victims is absolute silliness. Take action. Fight your oppression. Don’t just go along with it and count your lucky stars that you were on the side that wrote the book. Whether it was the “law” or not, YOU are responsible for your actions. If you did it, then that is something YOU did, not something someone MADE YOU DO. If someone forces you or tricks you into doing something, you still did it. You failed to live by your own principles and lived for someone else. When you act for someone else, you are COMPLETELY responsible. Displacing that responsibility onto a “leader” is the greatest source of human shame and misery.

The military of the "Greatest Generation" that fought in WW2 was made up of 25% volunteers and 75% draftees. The military who fought in Vietnam were 25% draftees and 75% volunteers. You early GWOT veterans led the way for us whom followed, you helped create our doctrine for CQC, you helped keep marines alive with your actions and sacrifices. Rest easy, veteran; we might not be as numerous but there's still marines that'd go above and beyond for what's right, even at the expense of their own career. We have not forgotten, & when the time came for us to follow in your foorsteps, know that we didn't falter or shake. Thank you for your service, thank you for your sacrifice, thank you for your stories & welcome home. 2/8th marines and 24MEU remembers your actions and we strive to live with a fraction of the honor, courage & commitment you men embodied. 🫡🦅🌎⚓️

@@Chris-fn4dfit’s clear you weren’t around back then. I joined the Army Infantry after 9/11. I wanted to do all I could to prevent attacks like that from ever happening again. Uncle Sam said Iraq was a threat so we invaded - hard. Back then we trusted our government. The moment I found zero weapons of mass destruction is when I realized monsters ruled the world. I never fired a shot. Didn’t need to because the Republican Guard literally deserted and months later became the insurgency. I was on the front lines in Baghdad in ‘03 ‘04 & ‘05 and I didn’t shoot once. Mostly because I was a Recon troop and we were fighting ghosts, but also because I understood we were warring in someone’s neighborhood. Tried to win hearts and minds. I wanted zero regrets and I have none. Tour one, after we invaded, I was smoking cherry flavored hookahs with elders. M4 in one hand and tea in the other. Our early convoys were like parades and smiles. I’ve had half of a dozen Muslim fathers walk up to me on the street at a safe house, with their daughters in their best dresses, formally asking me to marry their daughter and bring her back to the US. The locals loved us for about a month in Baghdad and then Bush broke up the Ba’ath Party, all hope was lost, and we were caught in the greatest urban conflict in human history. It sucked. Once you gain some wisdom, you’ll begin to understand nuance, and how you should have kept your mouth shut when you were younger…

Don't forget all you learned. I was in 91 to 99, you will need the knowledge in the near future. God love and God bless. I will protect you if we cross paths. So help me god.

I felt chills and goosebumps that entire video... God bless our Active Military, Veterans, our Allied Forces that fought beside ours like family and especially the heroes that didn't come home. I wont say "Thank You" but know that I mean it with respect, I acknowledge you. Your service and sacrifices are not lost on me. You are loved and appreciated, and *You Are NEVER FORGOTTEN* 💜

Note the 'Nam era (or just after) USMC hardware still in use: the CH46, Iroquios and Hueycobra choppers and LVTP7s, not to mention the long-barrelled M16A2 rifles.

As a sailor separating after a 6 year stint, I never saw the horrors that was war. I hope all my friends who stay in stay safe. No matter what, you can never take away the experiences, the camaraderie, or the bullshit we all went through.

Anyone here in a tank crewman back then, my dad was one but he doesn’t like to talk about it and I’m goin to see him for the first time in awhile and I wanna learn more about everything. Only thing I remembered was him saying he was in view of the villa uday and his brother were at when it got hit. Boyce wayn Williams ring a bell, I know it’s a long shot

I remember the taste and smell of battle, and ever since I have begged God for some excitement half as awesome as combat. I went back as a civilian but never quite got what I wanted, now I'm too old to expect that taste again

I was born just right to fight in southeast Asia , my oldest brother was born just right to fight in World War II, his younger brother was born just right to fight in Korea! We are not a warlike family, but we love our country, and all of us did our duty!

I remember the morning of 9/11, my 10th grade high school teacher was crying saying that the country will go to war, and it will be my generation that goes to fight. Well she was right. Ill hit my 20 year mark and retire in a few more months.

For many of these war things, I feel a lot of nostalgia for something I would not even be born for almost 10 years after the fact. I'm 13, and yet i somehow feel like I was there in a past life or something. By god have my dreams of it been horrible, and I expect it was a hundred times worse in reality. I saw this on a completely unrelated video, but "we made it back lads, let us drink for those who did not."

If you think the Marine Corps is "the man" in this song, you may wish you were never born when The Man comes around.

I think the reason they put this song in is because war is a place where people die, and so everyone dying in the war is going to have to answer for what he's done, good or bad, when he sits below the throne of judgment. But it's easy to see how a nonreligious person could confuse it some.

I was told “on every objective level” we are better now than we were in the 2000s as a military. Would love to hear your thoughts on us now vs let’s say 2002-2009

Not every level, but our contemporary military would absolutely win against 2003. Better generals, experienced SF, adequate equipment to deal with the insurgency, etc. We definitely don't have the money to nation-build like we did have then.

I was really young when we invaded, my friends and I used to idolize the marines and the soldiers who fought. We all wanted to join when we got older. Now I just look back in sadness, it was just another pointless war and we all 'grew up' to see how awful the military has become.
