I played this for my son and his significant other, who is quite knowledgeable in vocal music and said "How 'bout THAT voice?". She smiled and nodded in the affirmative. Then I showed them the piece where the soprano enters the stratosphere at the conclusion and they were hooked. We watched just about every song 5th does, no further prompting from me. Oh, and I showed them "Fairly Odd Parents" which is a hoot, and impossible to keep my right foot static during, crappy sentence structure notwithstanding. The other one they went nuts over that night was Steve and the Seagulls "Thunderstruck". Don't give up when one of them drives in on a riding mower and they pick up spoons, a wrench for the anvil, an accordion, etc. I thought that it was going to be hilarious at that point. It wasn't, it was AMAZING. I usually try to promote groups like 5th in other appropriate videos. S&S doesn't remotely need it, tens of millions of views on that one. but it is very much worth seeing. They ran through their repertoire afterward as well. My son's take was "that was better than AC DC's version".

I feel like a lot of groups go for a "collective showcase" style where they try to highlight each member as best they can. With you, it feels like complete cohesion. And for this style of performance I think it's the best approach. Y'all are haunting!

I've been back to hear this probably about a half dozen or more times now and it is becoming one of my favorites. All of it is excellent but the dynamics truly standout. You guys remind me of a top tier concert pianist performing his craft, with every touch of every key well thought out, practiced, internalized, and executed to the nth degree, WITH deep feeling. Moving to listen to. Take a gander at Radnich's "Pirates Forever" if you haven't seen it. An excellent example. One of my favorite parts of it is the impressionistic bit near the center. Keep 'em comin' and yes J, I intend to take you up on your email request. Thanks for the note. Talent like yours should be supported. I can only support a very few channels, and yours is one I would like to. It IS kind of irritating to me hearing some of the outright garbage out there that sells, with talent like this group has being practically unknown. It needs to change. I have no doubt if people heard you that WOULD change. Maybe hit one of those shows like "Sing Off", or god forbid Xfactor. It sure worked a champ for the likes of Pentatonix and Home Free, among others. If you guys are really serious at making a go of this, and it seems you are with the effort you put forth for this channel, that is an obvious next step. You are as good as either of those groups, MHO, and they are both VERY good. I'm not totally clueless when it comes to music, and if I enjoy you as much as I do and as others obviously do in the comment sections, I can damn sure guarantee a wider audience will, as well. You all have an amazing gift...GO FOR IT. If the people that produce those shows can't see that, there's yet another problem with this world. Like it needs one more, right? I believe the 'chameleonistic' aspect you guys seem to enjoy employing, especially with your soprano, who as I've said before I had to really work to make sure was the same person on a few of these vids, would be an interesting selling point, as well. This is a pretty hard song to sing due to the two octaves. I'm impressed.

You want HARD? Go look at their Georgia, arranged by Jacob Collier, which employs microtones, if I'm not mistaken. THAT is absurdly tough, and their discussion of their first run through it is predictable, and funny. This is the only group I've seen attempt it so far, it is that difficult. It helps to be able to discern and call out frequencies to TWO CENTS, as Jacob does in one of his SW editing tutorials. If you haven't heard him, listen to his "In the Bleak Midwinter" where he modulates from G to G half sharp in FOUR NOTES, and it is virtually transparent, then back out in about the same time frame, through an ingenious use of tuning four chords indistinguishably to the normal (and many trained) human ears to get there. Sure, it was a stunt for grins to see if he could pull it off, but he did it magnificently, and it was super clever, MHO, and many others, including many many professional musicians. Music pros love him. Guaranteed you will like some of his other stuff, too. I've seen PhDs trying to follow him when he talks music theory, some of which he is rewriting by demonstration, say "he lost me here" at some point in the lecture. I'm not making that up, some of it is on YT. Amazing dude, a true phenom. I could live without some of his later experimentation, but some love it, and he has to follow his star, so I don't fault him for it, I admire him for it. Hopefully he will get back to more normal writing soon. His "Don't Stop" on piano is quite good, and amusing. He's a clown, too. He won two Emmys before he was something like 21 for songs produced by himself, in his room. Flintstone's is one of them, full of microtonal work, as well. Oh, and he plays something like four different instruments, meaning different FAMILIES of instruments, and does some one man shows with this particular talent. And I mean PLAYS them, not trifles with them. Cheers. And if you know all this, someone else won't.

there's no autotune on this, it's just heavily EQ'd to give the voices their own "lane," so to speak, and keep them interfering with each other. acapella without EQ works live, since the voices have actual spatial separation standing apart from each other, but all the good acapella artists' recordings are EQ'd pretty heavily -- pentatonix and Jacob Collier for example. Music isn't a competition, EQ isn't "cheating," whatever sounds good is what you should do.
