It's one of my favorite episodes too, specifically due to this quote being my favorite: Frieren, "Looks like the plan was a success." *upside down stark* "You call that a success?" Sein, "whats worse is she called it a plan" Such party banter shows just how close the party is after such a short time, absolutely peak comedy and had me ROFL whenever I see it

I beg to differ. This episode is favorite for tons of people.. This episode is why I was so excited when I found that Keiichirō Saitō is returning as director for s.2 1st - We have the ring shown in 2 previous episodes. We have the set up that its important but Frieren does not remember why. 2nd - The bell at the beginning of the episode. Foreshadowing what would happen while also starting the process of memory returning to Frieren. 3rd - The way the object finding spell is presented. An illuminating light on a dark sky just before dawn - like a memory coming back in ones' mind before its fully revealed. 4th - The big pay-off. The scene with the clock tower standing between Himmel and Frieren, symbolizing time. And the shadows behind the two of them representing how much of their life have passed. 5th - And to wrap things up a mirroring relationship between Fern/Stark and Himmel/Frieren. Fern's ring having a blossoming mirrored lotus symbolizing that her love with Stark would happen. While Frieren's one a mirrored bulb lotus symbolizing that her love with Himmel would never do. And to add even more weight we have the quote "I am used to losing things", not only referring to the ring but to people.

Himmel going down on his knees to put the ring on Frieren's finger with the clock in the background was obviously the most romantic moment between them in the series. My favorite and most emotional scene of this episode was actually the flashback talk between Heiter and Frieren. There's this nearly a 100 year old man, close to death, telling her how he still feels like a child. Such a great insight again into human nature. Perfectly concluded with Frieren patting his head and praising him. So beautiful 🥲 My favorite episode has to be 25, simply because of the wonderful flashback with Frieren, Serie and little Flamme 😭

MAJOR SPOILERS: . . . .. . . .. . . . .. . . .. . . .. . . .. I'm torn between Starke's fight with the dragon, Old Man Voll, the combination of revealing that demons AREN'T redeemable with the following fights showing how Fern and Starke are far stronger than they realize, how Frieren's clone still hurts Fern/shatters her staff with A LOOK and magic so strong Fern can't recognize it as a spell, and the old man being talked out of killing Frieren. ...It's a really good series.

Privilege of the Young is a universal fan favorite, partially because it DOES have a huge emotional climax. The breakdown of this episode is fantastic but it’s hard to believe you not thinking this wouldn’t be a fan favorite when it has Himmel (metaphorically) proposing to Frieren.

Easily my favorite episode. I love how far both Frieren and Fern had grown, especially compared to episode 2. In the past, Frieren didn't think of others and left Fern feeling like they were wasting their time as she didn't understand how important Himmel was to Frieren. By episode 14, Frieren is ready to abandon a gift from Himmel for the sake of the party while Fern- in her own budding relationship, understands how precious gifts are and is horrified at the idea of losing such things. They effectively flipped their positions and it's so great seeing them both become more sympathetic.

So true, I feel that Frieren makes amazing use of its time. Within one manga chapter or half an episode, it manages to very elegantly and carefully touch upon different topics that one can; (1) ignore, (2) think a little about, (3) or even delve deep into. I think that people who call it slow, are mostly falling in the first or second categories in the previous list. I personally call it methodical rather than slow (ie, it chooses to take its time to given you the time to absorb and feel and think about it, instead of just one action scene after another non-stop).

For me, The Privilege of Youth is definitely the best. I love the notion of petty argument and silly disagreements being a “privilege of youth,” as well as how the two adults, Frieren and Sein, discuss Stark and Fern’s relationship and what they observe. It’s just so… real, and leads to some incredibly sweet moments between our cast. Second place would be Take Care, episode 17. Frieren inadvertently admitting that she IS Fern’s mother. It’s also just an incredibly sweet and thoughtful episode that touches on how we learn and adapt to how people want to be comforted, as well as what we ourselves are capable of doing when a loved one needs help.

One of my favourite things about Frieren is that it never wastes time - even during the slow moments there always feels like there is a subtle and deep magic underneath everything weaving everything together. It’s this feeling that has made this show one of the few I can watch over and over again.
@ParatetАй бұрын
this episode alone with Old Man Voll's episode is probably my favorite because there's so many threads that came together. It really contextualizes so many things. Frieren, a woman that gave away a priceless magical artifact because she may eventually need it and was surprised her friend kept it with his most precious belongings, immediately recalled her friend's face and actions when he gifted her a "trinket" that she kept with her for 50+ years. Afraid that she lost it, she immediately starts searching for it in secret. It took Fern's genuine concern that Frieren lost something important to Frieren that she used the rare spell (that wasn't really useful to someone that cares little for material things) she earned to find it.

this episode is my favorite. having a full realization of how much Frieren meant to Himmel and gives me hope that Frieren will realize it one day, hopefully before they reach Aureole

I think picking a single strongest episode of Frieren depends largely on which characters a person cares most about. The strongest Stark episode for me is episode 12: A Real Hero, the one where Stark learns the significance of the hamburg steak birthday and realizes his brother loved him the entire time. The strongest Fern episode for me was episode 27: An Era of Humans, where Fern passed the First Class Mage exam as Frieren predicted because she embodied the potential in humanity that Serie sought. The strongest Frieren episode for me was the season 1 finale, episode 28: It Would be Embarrassing when We Meet Again, where we see the culmination of the influence Frieren had in Äußerst. You get to see the depth of her knowledge when she reveals Serie's care for her students to Lernen. You see how good a teacher she was by how Kanne and Lawine both show up to bid her farewell and thank her for helping them grow as mages. Then you get that beautiful and poignant sendoff to both the city and the viewers about why she gives such quick goodbyes, our episode title, implying a mindset of never really saying goodbye to anyone she meets in life. Episode 14: Privilege of the Young, is probably the strongest Himmel episode as that ring scene expressing Himmel's true love for Frieren is one of the strongest singular scenes in the series.

I’m not smart enough to know if it’s the best, but it is definitely my favorite. I go back and watch it periodically. Frieren’s conversation with Sein (and Heiter) brings tears to my eyes every time. I love how they explain what adulthood is. And Frieren, being as ancient as she is, eternally youthful and aloof, may be one of the only people who can look at the adults and genuinely acknowledge them without being demeaning (I’m having a hard time articulating my thoughts). And the moment with Himmel is just so sweet, it’s impossible not to smile.

This episode is absolutely my favorite looking back on the series. I agree with your sentiment of surprise that these two storylines occurred in the same episode, because they are individually so good and enjoyable. Of course I remembered the scene of Himmel giving Frieren the ring, but when I happened to re-watch this episode with my friend I could have sworn it happened later on in some big moment rather than in this enjoyable, but seemingly mundane episode. It brought me to tears the second time I watched it, partly due to the surprise of it popping up when it did. So much of Frieren's beauty comes from finding love in the small things, and meaning in the mundane. Truly a once in a lifetime show.

As a dude who is almost 40 now I guess it was inevitable that the episode's containing *_Sein_* hit me the hardest. 📿 He is the most relatable charakter to me so far. Not a hero, not a figure of renown, just your average run of the mill dude with his addictions and fear of getting hurt by simply... everything. You can tell he regrets having hesitated when his friend *_Gorilla Warrior_* invited him to an adventure and then his friend started it off alone. The world of Frieren is dangerous and not even the most superior of skills guarantee your survival, especially as mangareaders will know. Even Frieren herself survived so many times by now, only a hairs lenght away from dead. Survival is never a guarantee. So he sets out... not showing it but he is surely afraid. First he was afraid of setting out at all and now he has to face the possibility of having followed his friend too late. He might have died to something already. Or he might be still alive, but crippled and Sein thinks it is his fault cause he wasn't there when Gorilla Warrior needed him. Or maybe the continous disappointments he recieved from humanity made Gorilla Warrior become *_the next Demonlord_* somehow (LoL) and now they have to slay- Nah okay, enough with this over the top fantheory nonsense. 😁 Anyway it takes huge balls for Sein to set out now. Knowing can be much more bitter than never knowing and always regretting to never have tested it out. Sein's name can be translated to *_" to be / being "_* _" I think therefore I am. "_ A perfect name to encapsulate the annoying aspects of existence, which will inevitably come to find each and everyone of us. Insecurities, doubts, regrets, anxiety, guilt, selfloathing for maybe having made the wrong call at some point in our lifes. The longer you live the bigger is the chance you will run into one such situation at last and experience some of those horrible sensations. So yeah, Sein hits me the hardest. Glad to see him reappear again in the newest manga chapters. =) It also kinda highlights how tough someone must be to be an Elf. To find personal peace with oneself, no matter what calls one has made in their lives. Frieren's regret is definitely all over her journey now and while she is a master of not letting it dishearten her too much, it clearly controls her for now. Reaching *'Aureole' - the Land where souls rest,* is not an optional sidequest in her life. It is her main destination now cause Frieren knows she can't get over this without meeting Himmel again, at least one last time. Oh all those cute, little Demon folks who try to stand in her way. Never stand in between someone with an identity crisis and their destination.

This is one of the episodes where I'm left with the thought "you didn't have to go this hard". This would undoubtedly be a...I don't know what the animation industry would call it but in live TV it's a Bottle Episode. Something discrete and character-focused used to save the budget, while they're generally unremarkable a good script can make them worth watching. This part of the manga introduces no new named characters or locations and the fight with the monster is just a single panel, yet the anime just won't stop putting the effort in. Also the end made me cry, which for a 30 second scene is quite remarkable.

Your best video so far, abolutely loved it. I am struggling to pick the best episode in Frieren, and that was mainly the reason why I put a 9/10 score initially. From the first watch perspective, I didn't grasp where the peak was, but on rewatch, I appreciated the first episodes the most. If considering the first 4 episodes as 1, it is definitely my favorite. If judging them separately, then probably ep 2: the theme of acting in memory of the dead, creating the feeling that part of what they were is still present, is my favourite, so it is the peak of Frieren for me (also, Heiter is the best character), but you can't feel so attached to this moment on your first watch

Won’t say it’s the best but my personal favorite is the episode where Frieren gets sidetracked looking for a specific blue flower because of its connection with Himmel. As the weeks add up and Fern becomes increasingly frustrated she finally asks Frieren when they can move on? “Soon.” Fern and the audience knows that for an elf soon can be a very long time in human terms. I loved this episode because it showcased how far Frieren came in valuing what she had in the past while contrasting that with the growth she still needed to undergo to value what was currently right in front of her: Fern. Also the animation was lovely on the plants. As a gardener it made me happy to see such attention to detail.

(1) I haven't really checked any websites with episode rankings, but I'm surprised that more people don't rate episode 14 as one of the best apparently. In the communities I've been a part of, almost everyone ranks it as one of their favorites if not their number 1. (2) Sorry for being OCD, but I just couldn't stop myself. :) Aviation deals with travel by air. Avian relates to birds. So, it was actually avian monster NOT aviation monster as you said around 4:54. (3) I've seen many people take issues with the folk spell to find lost accessories. They claim that it's too convenient or something. However, we have more than enough world building to prove that it's not really that unexpected; (3.1) We know that there is such a thing as "useless spells" (ie, spells that most common mages would not bother with), but Frieren does. (3.2) Frieren doesn't really associate herself with people who would have such a folk spell. She tells Himmel in the flashback, that she would've preferred a gift from a magic shop and she also didn't show much interest in the merchant's products in current time. Therefore, while she does collect all kinds of spells, it's believable that she wouldn't have this spell. (3.3) She searches for the ring alone at night. Hence why no one knew until near the end, which is why the merchant didn't mention having such a spell earlier. (3.4) Folk spells are literally magic invented by mages in more rural areas and whatnot. And they typically are meant to deal with their own issues. Hence why a merchant selling accessories is perfectly logical to have a "finding lost accessories" spell. (4) I've also seen many people take an issue with the horse floating during the time the avian monster is carrying the carriage and especially after the crash. However, this can also be perfectly explained with clues already given in the story. (4.1) We learn in this episode that Humanity's (which includes humans, dwarves, and elves) usage of flying magic is still imperfect, but they can actually use it fairly well on themselves and things about the same size as a humanoid. Hence why a horse is also applicable. (4.2) What would be the logical thing to do as soon as the avian monster picks up the carriage? Answer: Protect everyone including the horse. The merchant enters the carriage, and it's very likely that Frieren casted the flying magic spell on the horse. Otherwise, would the harness really keep the horse from falling? NO. (4.3) Therefore, after the crash the horse is still floating due to having flying magic casted on it. (5) When Fern gets angry at Stark for suggesting to replace the bracelet, it's one of the very few times if not the only time in season 1, where she drops "keigo". If you don't know what that is, then consider searching "keigo Japanese" or "Honorific speech in Japanese" or something along those lines.

I always think of Dr Fords rejection of sizemores new plot from Westworld when i hear subtlety. hopkins delivery is so good and the words behind it ring true for so many stories

This was also the strongest episode for me. I can't think of any other episodes in Frieren that surpass the emotion that I felt when I first watched this episode.

I remember this episode hitting especially hard since the ring bit just fit so well with the chapter that had just came out; can't remember when exactly, but want to say same week at the very least. Think most manga readers that were watching the show weekly at the time would agree.

I love this episode, it was beautiful and sad to see how Himmel basically proposed to Frieren knowing fully that most likely she will never be his wife.

I'm the kind of person who doesn't tend to re-watch anything until a significant amount of time has passed (normally years). Frieren though, maybe 2-3 months? They pack so much into each episode but somehow keep everything relaxing and not overwhelming to the viewer

4:25 I know it doesnt matter much, but i think you misspoke here, shouldn't it be "Fern is upset because stark didn't get HER a birthday present"? Loved the video as always but thought i'd mention something i noticed

I liked how Frieren got another odd spell that just happened to save the ring. And her reaction was like "I get to learn a new spell and use it right away!" because she recognizes that all of those spells have a use, no matter how small.
