Wikipedia said this song was intended to be a direct parody of "Do You Hear the People Sing," which I can hear at the beginning, but from the middle to the end it puts me in mind of "One Day More" given all of the callbacks to earlier songs.

i can definitely hear both. the call back is a common theme at the end of the 1st Act to "callback" to earlier songs

I just love how the entire atmosphere comes down when Dr. Cox sits down to tell her the results, and then the ENTIRE CAST RUINS the moment by starting the denouement of the song.

I also don’t get how dr cox sings ‘how can I tell her’ because the patient can’t hear him so why his he singing? I know it’s daft but Just an observation!!!
