I have always Loved this song. I've heard others sing it, and they've done so, beautifully, however, no one has ever delivered the gut-wrenching heartbreak & pain that Betty Buckley does. This is the definitive peformance of this song. Absolutely Brilliant, Ms. Buckley! Total Perfection! Thank You!

Her voice is so beautiful and moving...such power and so emotional but at the same time it can be sweet and have an ephemeral quality...and look at that total immersion in the character! Ms. Buckley is tremendously underrated!

I adore the song and I adored the show when we saw it almost 33 years ago the week it opened at Stratford RSC. It's very sad that Barbara Cook never recorded this; she was after all the first person ever to sing it and she did a magnificent job.

One of my favorites as well!! Her work in this show was fantastic! MArin MAzzie can't touch Betty's performance vocally nor intensity. She was so moving in this show! One of the better performances I have ever seen on Broadway

I visited NYC for the first time in late January 1988, and there were posters everywhere for Carrie: the Musical. I knew I was going to return in June so I thought I would be able to see it then. But of course it had already closed. I got my hands on a pirated cassette of the show in 2004, and was at least able to finally hear it in all it's glory. Luckily I was able to see Betty in Triumph of Love and Sunset Boulevard! She is the best of her generation! I would love to see a show with Betty and Judy Kuhn - maybe a The Rink revival?

I’ve worked with Ms.Buckley. She’s not the easiest actor to work with. But she is 100% committed to every word she speaks or sings. Look at this performance. A horrible musical with one magnificent song. And she kills it.

This must have been a very expensive and difficult musical to put on with the pyrotechnics, the laser show, the automated scenery. From an insurance and safety standpoint it's a nightmare, Even buying the rights to the original material from King, would be a pretty penny. And that leads to constant tinkering with the script, the songs, the staging which of course fuels rumors of trouble that the critics read, and absorb before they ever show up The biggest name, Barbara Cook was a casualty after she was nearly struck by an entire set piece and she wanted out. It cost 8 million to move the show from London to Broadway. All of which puts a extra pressure on the producer, director etc to recoup costs and recoup them quickly. When the reviews went south, the money just dried up. Nobody wanted to wait for word of mouth to undo the damage the critics had done. Its sad.
