"This video is sponsored by MJB, the champions coffee of choice" one day John, one day... Aside from jokes, nice tourney there, with some highs and lows but you still managed to get 6/10, that's pretty good. Have you ever tried focusing 100%? Not that you don't do it, I mean just play but not streaming or if streaming not reading the chat and that kind of stuff. It'd be interesting to see the difference between this two situations! Anyway good vid and thanks, they're extremely useful and instructive.

The ONLY reason why streamers from Pogchamps didn't come to John for coaching is because he's too OP as a coach, and chess.com was worried that the person being coached has an unfair advantage. ;) But seriously though, every streamer should have looked deeply into John's chess fundamentals videos. The #1 cause of resignations in the whole tournament was undefended pieces/pawns.

Actually in the line in the first game modern sources give 5. . .Bg4 against the 5.Bd2 move order. If Black plays 5. . .c6 trying to get back in to the "main line" a savvy White player can profit from not spending the tempo on Nf3 by playing with Bc4, Qe2 and O-O-O then getting a quick d5. This is not a fun Scandi for Black. Alas, even with 5. . .Bg4 the positions are still promising for White if he is prepared but it is at least more or less playable for Black.

Hey John, I’ve been noticing a constant mistake that I’m making in which my eyes are drawn to the pieces my opponent is attacking as opposed the the squares under attack. This habit leads to miscalculations due to not seeing the bigger picture. How did you train your mind to always be looking for the weak/strong square?
@wesleyclymer7985
@wesleyclymer7985 4 жыл бұрын
Watch his fundamental videos, you’ll lose that habit after you finish the lessons and you’ll start to apply them in games. Not exactly sure which one solves your exact problem but it may just be lack of experience with reading the board, the lessons will help tremendously

HI!, Question on TIME. If a player is behind on time , he loses unless he checkmates no matter even if he has 8 queens on the board? So in your first game here, you were down to 10secs and your opponent conceded at 25 secs why? you about to get a queen next move but you still have to checkmate with just 10secs left to his 25 where he can just move anything at that point to kill your time off even allowing for 5+ ect Please tell me why his opponent conceded in the first game?

@@johnpaolor.ocampo7997 Thanks, i thought it might be that sort of thing. i once had a game where i had got 3 queens on the board and still lost on time!. (20 min game) That clock is half the game!!

@xx3868
@xx3868 4 жыл бұрын
@@johnpaolor.ocampo7997 Yeah, i looked at there bishop protecting the square to the right of their King and couldnt see any checkmate for you with a few moves having to be played and with only a few seconds on the clock as good as you obviously are, so that confused me but another replyer said its more cutesy like giving your opponent a 2 foot put in golf to save time! I am new to the clock as only just joined that chess site and once was 2 pieces up and time too and surrounded my king and didnt know i just had to sit out the clock, but moved and got caught and lost so learnt a lesson from that pint and that is the clock is half the battle especially if you always falling behind. So lesson learned! I even lost a game after promoting for an extra 2 queens, so that hurt!. great teaching channel you have and have learned a lot from your videos and now i am working on how to break players that lock their pieces together as they play "by the book" and wait for you to make errors. Very tough to get much from them as they know the patterns and blunders pretty well.
