I first heard this song back in 2000 and immediately fell in love with it. They’re voices and the beautifully haunting music took me to a place far away. I’ve been listening to it almost every day for the last 2 weeks 🖤

Their voices are hauntingly beautiful and what an amazing old church hymn that they updated.

My grandmother's favorite hymn. I'm a grandmother now. I remember her working in the house and singing this song. These lovely ladies capture every memory and emotion as if it were yesterday.

Sorry, this was from a VHS tape, the original copy was fouled up, (bad tape) and this is all I could salvage.I wish they would release this performance on DVD.

That's okay, Mark, I'm grateful just for this fragment. Can't help that it's poor quality. Thanks.

The other singer has a last name McKeown. I was there for this taping. My seat was right up close after waiting hours on the sidewalk. It was arguably the single best thing that I have ever heard.

Adam Jernow I just happened to be watching PBS, and I started recording when Natalie was on Sessions. Yes, when this song came on, it gave me chills. The good kind. But on playback, I found out my new blank tape was junk. I was devastated. I recorded it on a two head VHS recorder. I tried playing it back on a 4 head player. I got this, so I recorded it off the 4 head player. I have been hoping for a release on DVD, but it probably won't happen. But, miracles sometimes occur.

What a wonderful smile that singer has who is harmonizing with Natalie Merchant. Who is she? It sounded like Natalie was thanking, "Susan McPhee." Regret to say I've never heard her!

There's a land beyond the river That they call the sweet forever And we only reach that shore by faith's decree One by one we'll gain the portals There to dwell with the immortals When they ring the golden bells for you and me Don't you hear the bells now ringing Don't you hear the angels singing 'Tis the glory hallelujah jubilee In that far off sweet forever Just beyond the shining river When they ring the golden bells for you and me We shall know no sin or sorrow In that heaven of tomorrow When our hearts shall sail beyond the silvery sea (sea) We shall only know the blessing Of our Father's sweet caressing When they ring the golden bells for you and me Don't you hear the bells now ringing Don't you hear the angels singing 'Tis the glory hallelujah jubilee In that far off sweet forever Just beyond the shining river When they ring the golden bells for you and me When our days shall know their number When in death we sweetly slumber When the king commands the spirit to be free Nevermore with anguish laden We shall reach that lovely Eden When they ring the golden bells for you and me When they ring the golden bells for you and me

Anton: When Natalie sings traditional folk songs and hymns, her vocal style is about as straightforward as can be, not mannered at all. The little song on the Woody Guthrie Mermaid Avenue, or the Lowland Sea. This is another example. Gulf of Araby (Katell Keineg's song),
