When Things Don't Go As Planned (Cities Skylines Beginners Guide)

In this easy-to-follow beginners guide, I'll show you the BEST way to start a brand new city 100% vanilla. In this episode we are going to start developing abandoned commercial buildings and replace them with the Posh Mall unique building and do some detailing of the empty green space while talking about ways to make empty spaces feel more alive. We will also start to expand the city, making a new interchange to prepare to expand the industrial areas. But sadly 8 TSUNAMIS HIT THE CITY IN A ROW, so I'll show you the best ways to deal with disasters if you have the Natural Disasters DLC and help recover from the massive flooding that destroyed the city.
If you're an ABSOLUTE BEGINNER, we will go over the basics of the game, from the starting road layout to zoning, services and how to make money in Cities Skylines. We will go over the next few milestones and what to do when you unlock each one.
This tutorial applies to both PC and console players, but I am playing on a PC so some things may be different if you're on PS4, Xbox, Switch, etc. I have a few visual mods installed to make the game look more visually appealing, but the gameplay itself is 100% vanilla base game.

After having that many tsunamis, i'll be amazed if the next episode doesn't include building and decorating coastal defences. Great episode! I love it when things take an unexpected and dramatic turn like today. It really helps add that bit more excitement and unpredictability to a city build. Kinda hoping the setting stays on because its always fun to watch something like a meteor strike part of the map and see whether you turn the crater into something new and unique, or landscape it and put everything back to how it used to be.

@@CitiesByDiana the frequency was already pretty low. i say you do a one off episode on how to deal with disasters, and just turn the frequency up all the way. that would A. be fun to watch, and B. be pretty educational

Education used to be a problem for me too until somebody (I can't remember if it was biffa or city planner or someone else...) explained a little game mechanics to me. When you zone or place residential make sure to have enough libraries in your city. For people over the age of 18 moving into your city, it is the only way to get educated. Now I'm not sure if that means everyone moving into town is without education but I do know that since I have been making libraries more available, I have had less problem with uneducated or over educated cims. Also wanted to say great video! I love the way you explain things!

LOL The emergency announcement voice from the game gives me anxiety. I do really love the disasters though because it really adds more interest when playing, and I like seeing the little disaster relief crew working to find the people and the little dogs. I like what you did with the detailing for the mall! I sometimes build way too fast and don't think about making stuff look nice.

The emergency announcer lady lies a bunch, she’ll announce the same tsunami multiple times over the course of the disaster, I think you only had 1 or 2

I definitely had at least 2 on camera and there were one or two more that actually showed up that I edited out cos it just kept going, but the amount of times she announced a tsunami was excessive so I think you're right. So annoying 😭🤣

I just caught up with this series! I've been following along with my own version of Sandy Beach (called Shell Harbor) where I've been making a city that is inspired by/resembles yours, but isn't a copy. I DID copy this episode's dog bone interchange because I am terrible at making interchanges. I think this is one of my most successful cities, so I really hope you continue with the series. I'm new to your channel and plan to watch more. I play with no mods, so I love series that also use no mods. Oh, and I have disasters turned on too. I've gotten a few small ones (thunderstorm, sinkhole, minor earthquake). After seeing this, my next step will be to strengthen my city's disaster preparations! Thank you for creating!

This episode was hilarious. Appreciate you rolling with the punches for a while; too many people give up and scrap the city. I assume there’s probably a way to adjust the frequency of certain disasters without completely turning them off? I don’t particularly care for them but they are realistic so I do tend to try to keep stuff like fires.

Finally, Vanilla returns! And spicier than ever! Only Diana can do that. Mass gentrification? Weird flex, but OK. No, really, it's the way of the game, sometimes. Oh! I didn't know of "those" decals! The virgin surface painter v. the chad decal? Are mods cucked now? Do any of those words even mean something? Only the dev gods know. Respect the topography! Disrespect it too! Vanilla spice! Speaking of highway access, would love to see you do more, and talk more about, slip lanes. Also, straightening the highway is cheating a bit! But it is a good bone, with a nice, red, marrow. Do you think the ring road could replace the highway, in the future? What a wave of emotions! And water! Straight to the heart! The heart of the power grid! At least the rescue dogs are cute. 10000 dead, and a 4th tsunami? Flawed mechanics is an understatement. Disable disasters and don't give up! The people want more Sandy Beach! We also need a playlist of the BGM.

City Planner's cities burn while yours drown. 😆 I'm not thrilled with the disasters mechanics, but I do like the assets that came with it. Maybe they could have toned down the disaster response building just a bit.

Yeah I actually do love a lot of the assets that came with the DLC like the radio towers and weather station etc so amazing. Unpopular opinion but I think the disaster response building is beautiful...But it's WAYYY too beautiful to be a disaster response building. Should've been the stock exchange.

Love your city ty for answering all my questions so fast. Just looking at control alt delete my laptop is running at 3.9 to 4.2 ghz, and using about 18.5gb of ram on a city of 85000 with 25 squares about 12 mods and over 300 buildings ect
