Due to how armor works in real life side scraping would be inparatical. Yes angling did happen but the one thing not moddeled in the game is the fact that shells still dig into angled surfaces allowing them to pen some of the angles you see people use in the game as far as side scraping.

Depending a bit on what doctrine you are looking at (NATO vs Soviet e.g.) there are a couple of differences. However, regardless, the MBT is designed for one thing: Assault the enemy head on. Hence, it's strongest in the front. They sacrifice some side armour and definitely the rear one to put as much as they possibly can in the front (hull and turret). My point being, side scraping and other "features" in WoT has no real world equivalent. Some mechanics are the same such as trying to flank the enemy tank to get shots in where it has less armour. Hull down is of course also used and a lot of tanks even has it's own blade so it can dig itself in if needed when it's defending. However, in real life, as a tanker, it's generally a really bad day if your tracks, road wheels and other things are destroyed which is exactly what would happen if you used the beloved side scraping. No self healing there and remember that no one would get out of the tank and try to fix it when it's hosed down with MG bullets.

Tanks in real life pretty much never side-scraped. You could position your tank in an angle at a street corner, but the side-scraping we see in World of Tanks is 100% unhistorical. Also the barrels of the tanks were too long to have the tank hug a building.

In that tank you are running out of ammunition very often and with that amount of 268v4, types and so on in the game you need to have enough to kill multiple of them. The problem is the amount of ammo, with more you could easily play full standart and just have apcr for these special situations.

Anyone else miss the FV215B. Its my favorite heavy tank, but my only complaint was that the side armor was over matched way to often. I would understand why would someone take some premium ammo (in this gameplay it's a bit extreme), in certain situation if you don't fire premium ammo there won't be a chance. You can't argue with historically accurate in a game that has so many tanks that where never build, have tanks fight tanks they never (or very rarely) encountered. (I mean, I never saw a HP bar on a tank anywhere. Tanks also won't get destroyed if you shoot a viewport on top of the turret...) It still is an arcade game, and game mechanics don't have (and in some cases shouldn't) be historically accurate all the time. Fact is: On many tanks premium rounds just break the balance of the game. Most tanks with alot of armor have weak points you should know how to exploit, are rather slow and sluggish (because of the armor), so you should flank them and not sit in front of them and press the "2" key. (yes, then there are exceptions that are simple broken, but thats a different story) The irony being that some tanks got an armor buff to still be effective, which in return increased the "2" spam even more. Great idea that was... They should completly change the ammo system. Standard ammo (in most cases AP or APCR) is for the most part pretty much ok in my book. How HE works in most guns is also ok. Less pen, but higher damage, it gives you a CHOICE to use it in the right situation for great benefit (or to defend a cap for sure, which is also a good choice if you do). The third ammo type? Might depend on the vehicle, but if you give the third ammo more pen, you need to give it another downside - a real one. Because if you still talk about gameplay mechanics, it is really bad if one ammo type is simply better than another, without a downside. (And please don't start with the downsides that Heat or APCR "have" right now. You can see how much of the premium is used BECAUSE it is so much better than standard ammo)

????????? A computer game is never going to be historically accurate. Its the elements that count. What he is whining about is a historically accurate element. Balance of the game? How does it break it? You meet a well armoured tank you shoot it with gold. Easy and historically accurate. What you seemingly want is heavy tanks that don't sit there and get butt fucked frontally which isn't historically accurate in its own right.

Oh, I see you really studied armor, ammo types and such. A Tiger for example couldn't get penned by a sherman frontally unless the sherman was closer than 100m and the Tiger wasn't angled. In reality, allied forces actually would calculate they still need at least 4-5 shermans to kill a Tiger, if they are able to corner it. In WoT you just press the "2" key and you pen a Tiger in your sherman. So much for historically accurate. And sure it breaks the balance of the game. Some tanks where meant to be good at holding a position or push because of their frontal armor. Others are MEANT to flank, and not pen a Maus from the front. Those tanks are fast, agile. If you can pen him frontally because you hit your "2" key, it negates the game and tank design, kills the tactical nature, and the balance of the SLOW TANK that is supposed to not be penned frontally by your vehicle. Meaning: you have a slow tank, your angle isn't wrong, but you get killed by a tank from an angle it shouldn't be able to it pretty much tells you you shouldn't play a well armored tank and try to deal with the sluggish nature, because playing a fast tank is better, since you can just hit the "2" key instead of using your brain and skill to deal with a hard target. Premium ammo makes alot of armor in the game ineffective. That isn't a good thing. But I guess I don't need to argue with you anymore, since you are a defender of the premium ammo on tanks, because of reasons. You are also ok with loot crates and P2W mechanics in other games I guess, because it is nice to have to throw your money at a company, right? You do realise they just changed premium ammo to be also buyable with silver to not be called P2W... because it was P2W... Things like that are the reasons the game design goes more and more to micro transactions, DLCs you have to pay for that should be in the game to begin with, loot crate mania to get even more money out of you.

Tanks usually don’t side scrape nowadays because the average effective distance is about 3000m. Usually find a hull down position and face their targets head on because turrets are very slanted nowadays for the usage of sabot because he for the most part is useless other than shaking the crew up
