Ross, Thanks so much for posting this much needed video. Just harvested my very first Pom on 11/01/2024. May have waited a bit too long to pick. This video will help with next years harvest! BTW your trees look like they are doing very well so it gives me hope for my zone 8A Georgia. Randy/GA

Yes, picking pomegranates at the right time, can be very confusing. I have had fruit that split, so right after they split I picked them, yet they were already over ripe on one end, and stuck to the branch very well still. I needed pruners to remove them. I think that they might have had that disease, although it was not as obvious as on your fruit. The peel just seemed to dry out and change color.

I live in high desert zone 9A. Pomegranates do great here, but I keep having mine split long before they are full sized or ripe! Pretty sure it has to do with my watering, but I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. (Generally I water thoroughly when a moisture meter says it’s time. But I don’t even know what my house sitter does when I’m away.) They are about 4 years old; I’m hoping as they grow out their roots out farther they will be able to make up for my inconsistencies better. Or maybe I will stumble on the right timing and amount of irrigation!

Are the ones we buy in stores really better than the ones we grow at home? Same with citrus I’m wondering if it’s worth growing at home

They are. Salavatski is amazing.

I have problems with some of my pomegranates rotting inside before the others are even ready to pick. I press mine and use the juice to flavor my tea.

Do you cover them for the winter?
@RossRaddi8 күн бұрын
No. Salavatski does great even in 6B planted against teh house.

Aldi's has pomegranates for a buck so I get lots, set them out for a couple of weeks then into the fridge. I'm thinking of planting a tree (7B) and wonder about growth speed.

Planting one is a great decision. They also taste better.

I’m thinking that just waiting till the right time of the year might help, but I know so little about pomegranates. I have two young trees in pots. And, I’m just winging it to see what happens. No fruit yet

I find that once the petals are hard and brittle rather than flexible, the pom is ready to harvest. At that time they will also pull off the tree easily.

Jealous. My salavatski won’t survive missouri winters
