I’m in zone 6 we had nice blooms finally this year but due to no pruning it’s created very tall plants that send shoots. I would like to see a video of how to actually prune it back, thank you!

A random landscaper(not mine) came into my yard last week (August 5th months past WA Lilac bloom season) and completely randomly went to town cutting off two of the three main trunks and then just cut wherever else they fancied… (???) About 75% of my plant was mutilated with a blunt cut!!!! (Shall I dare compare it to a 1990’s bowl cut? This was a fairly spendy sort of established lilac tree I purchased as a large-ish potted tree just two summers ago, which did not bloom this summer - my hope was that we could see blooms next year, by year three. Then to make matters worse, they cut a second lilac shrub, the smaller of the two lilacs completely to a nub no more than one inch off the ground. With the exception of the randos coming into my yard, I wouldn’t be too upset except for the fact that I have read it will be another four or five years before I see blooms. Should I cut my losses and buy another two or Is there anything I can do? Sorry for the long post! Thanks for any help!!!!! 😊

So I live in Missouri, and I have not pruned my lilac bush, which has definitely produced more branches. Should I wait until next year to prune it?

Hydrangea shurb also? I trim in the very early spring, when I see the new nodes on the plant. They go crazy with blooms for me. Just wondering

Do you prune a re-blooming lilac the same way or do you not prune it at all?
