If most people pot Nepenthes in peat(no experts), I wonder why? In Gartencenters I understand why! It's often because they don't have the knowledge for them and they just rely on the People where they buy it. My Nepenthes are 99% from the Gardener "Green Jaws" or "Fangblatt" here in Germany and I haven't repotted them and all of them with no exception are in Peat but they are growing very well! But when I have to repot it I will try dead shagnum Moos and Perlite.
@WindowsillNepenthes2 жыл бұрын
I don't know a lot about peat moss, but well drained it should work. It's just less "forgiving" than sphagnum for root rot. ;)

@@WindowsillNepenthes All my Plants are healthy as far I can see and as I said they are all in a peat mix with quartz sand and Perlite. Where do you have your dead shagnum Moss from? Amazon?

Some Nepenthes (especially the hardier, easy to grow hybrids you find in garden centers like the ventrata) can technically grow ok in peat moss, since peat is deficient in nutrients. But due to the physical characteristics of peat it's more likely setting yourself up for failure if you do. It's you would have to be extremely careful with how much you watered to not let the peat dry out (it gets hard to rehydrate) or stay too soaking (it readily absorbs and holds onto water. Better to just repot it into a medium that is more airy like sphagnum moss mixes.

You have an amazing and underrated channel there ! I am watching all your videos one by one. Lot of great info and tips to learn from. Thank you ! The internet helps a lot. What knowledge one might get through experience over the years by killing many plants can be obtained from already experienced people! Just awesome.

i definitely need to repot 3 of my plants has this slimy thing growing on the potting mix. It looks exactly like in one of your community posts, i think you said it was algae Is algae bad though? the plants are medium size
@WindowsillNepenthes2 жыл бұрын
Algae are only bad for seedlings as it can cover them. But if you have algae, you may need more drainage and airflow. ;)
@Black_chinese_monster2 жыл бұрын
@Windowsill Nepenthes airflow it is! i have a fan i rarely used, i just dont like the work of manually turning it off and on Because it gets rid of the humidity pretty fast (they are in a very small area) Whats should i do?

when repotting how much bigger should i make the pot?
@WindowsillNepenthes Жыл бұрын
Depends on the plant size, but you want this plant to stay in this new pot for at least 2 years. Imagine your plant in 2 years and then choose the pot size. 😉

Hello! I have this brick of exoterra plantation soil, its package says "triple washed heat treated coco fiber". Can I use this for nepenthes? I heard coco products contain too much salts
@WindowsillNepenthes2 жыл бұрын
I don't know this one but I used coco husk from the same brand without problem. Also, frogs have a really thin skin that would "drink" the salt out of the soil and poison themselves... so IF it was dangerous, I don't think Exoterra would sell that to their clients. ;)

This can be several things such as the roots could have been damaged during repotting. But if you had just had the plant then it is quite possible that it is rather a lack of light. Check this video that may guide you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/poi5oYaEmbt8ndE
