I’ve been an extra on some movies and did not sign an NDA, I wasn’t allowed to bring my phone during the scenes that’s all. I think glee had that bad management problem, seeing it was such a success. NDAs should’ve been signed, but they probably assumed no one who wants a career would spoil (I think) 🤷🏽‍♀️

it happens with every fandom, media with an anti bullying focus is likely being pushed towards kids and teens. In this case, Glee's demographic is mainly tween girls. The reason Glee seems like it has a bad fandom is really just sexism at the end of the day, it's no better or worse then any other piece of media, people just enjoy harassing teen girls lol. The cycle is something like fanbase erupts -> a woman does something stupid -> men attack her for a relatively normal mistake -> unrelated people see it because of how quickly everything snowballed -> unrelated men comment on how stupid she is -> blows up more -> cycle continues. Most fandom stories you hear are about women for a reason. Rick and Morty, Homestuck, Stranger Things, Marvel, etc, they aren't any different.

As a former Gleek, the second you talked about the plot, everything came flooding back to me. I vaguely remember this happening but TBH, even though it's not necessarily right, even the Glee Wiki used leaks like Nicole and places like GleekOutBR as TBC plot line info in the lead up to new episodes. This shit continued long after the Nicole incident, and I remember the songs would always be leaked (song being sung and singer) before their release on First Listen Friday. Not condoning it at all, just adding what I remember. The Glee fandom really was a warzone, and I hate that this info is etched on my brain lmao.

This was a big episode back when it aired so it spoiled a big reveal and ruined their work. i can’t believe i forgot about this i was a huge gleek & very involved in the fandom during this. people would beg nicole for information, and she was highly praised by most people. some of the fandom would get upset by the spoilers, but most people were excited by it. spoilers were a huge thing - the plot of almost every single episode was leaked before it aired. IIRC there were quite a few people who worked on the show that were known to post weekly spoilers after brad’s tweet though, everyone switched up. spoilers were suddenly wrong and immoral, and anyone who posted them was considered bad. the former (highly respected) leakers were now getting mass amounts of hate nicole didn’t deserve the hate she got - she was just a glee fan like the rest of us at the time who happened to have insider information. she only ever shared it because fans BEGGED her to. i hope she’s doing well now. fuck RIB.

A spoiler for your creation isn't a huge deal. It's one thing if someone is going out and doing what those jackasses did at the final harry potter book releases and screaming spoilers to people who don't want to hear them. This was really interesting... I work in post production, we work on hollywood movies so get to see everything in advance. I have had massive leaks at companies I have worked at twice coouchspidermantrailercough, it is awful. Internal audits, terse messages, massive meetings, means privileges get taken away from all of us. It is selfish, and really unprofessional and she shouldn't have worked as an extra again (though she didn't seem to want to anyway) and she must have known she was playing with fire. That said, she in no way deserved death threats or the backlash she got and Brad should have kept that offline instead of confirming the spoiler and berating a 21 year old publicly, and Glee not having NDA's is beyond stupid, we have to sign a bunch of NDA's and it formalizes what we can and can't say, not having that blurs the line between what can and can't be said.

The thing was she wasnt even an extra on any relevant episode, it was leaked to her in a personal capacity as a gossip blogger, she wasnt involved in the episode at all. Its the difference between if I revealed corporate secrets vs repeating stuff someone else leaked, not professional, but not exactly unprofessional either. This just sounds like the creator being an ass, no? He himself leaked the info by openly confirming it, he could have chosen to not comment or deny or spread counter rumours... when she said it it was just rumours. Essentially someone who worked with them in the past but was no longer involved, had no contract swearing them to secrecy even when they were involved, and was now just a gossip blogger got told something and posted it so the creator went out to get her kicked out the entire industry. This just sounds unjustified, it would be like if you posted something a friend told you about the next totallynotspiderman that you had no involvement in leading to you losing your job. Even without the public dragging its an issue imo

Finally an opinion I can agree with in the comments, I think both sides did wrong, even if Nicole wasn't working with them anymore she still leaked the important beat of an upcoming episode and spoilers do ruin the hype for many fans and creators alike but it shouldn't be a reason to bully or threat someone. Also, that's so neat, you didn't*wink wink* work in Spider-Man, please don't spoil the whole plot of the fourth movie for me and don't tell me what Tom, Tobey and Andrew are like because I know you didn't work with them... 👀

brad (and of course a man like him is named brad) could have just ignored the spoiler, but her decided to, from his massive platform, aid in confirming it and also go after someone with a much smaller platform. he then also used his power, and the power of the company he worked for, to ruin her life. like boo-hoo you got spoiled for something because you're chronically online and actively following pages that post spoilers, like who's actually to blame here? also another source on a separate website confirmed the spoiler, like why are ya'll not as mad at that person? until that tumblr user and brad came into the equation nicole's post was just as much a shot in the dark as anyone else's guess. i just personally do not see spoilers as a big deal, especially considering modern movie trailers and how companies now use actor's "spoiling" things as a marketing tactic. if nicole was unprofessional then so was everyone else involved in the saga, especially brad, brad should've known better, there is absolutely no excuse for his behavior, people shouldn't even try to make any.

working as an extra and wanting to make it big but also running a gossip / spoilers blog is a bit ironic considering that spoilers are shows and movies' arch nemesis??? she was just proving that she can't be trusted with keeping secrets for upcoming projects

If you type "tom holland spoiling stuff" in the youtube search bar you will find thirteen minute long videos of him spoiling Marvel movies. Not only is he still employed, but Marvel is now using him as an excuse to shove as many actors into interviews as possible to "babysit" him. Something tells me if Nicole had played a main character she would have never been treated this way by fans OR been blacklisted from Hollywood.
@ninade
@ninade 2 жыл бұрын
@@Olivia-ek9ib I agree that it is unfair that Tom has no repercussions and her career was ruined over this, but I think it does make a difference that Tom already was an established actor and the Marvel movies use his "accidental spoilers" as marketing tool imo. I think she would still have been in trouble even as a main character tho, since the Glee fandom was crazy like that. Just look how quickly they turned on her, when she was such a known source for spoilers before this lol

@@Olivia-ek9ib the difference is Tom does it by accident and this woman was running a spoilers blog, so it was entirely intentional

Honestly if they were so pressed about that aspect being spoiled then they should have just filmed it with multiple pairs and plot points surrounding it and not told people which would be used

This video keeps getting out on my recommended page despite having no real interest or attachment to Glee outside of bizarre recaps. And you know what I’m kinda glad I did click on this but also it’s just. Really sad? I mean it’s a generally unsurprising that the Gleek fandom did this especially considering how most fandoms ALWAYS have an element of misogyny, ableism and racism within them. Anyways this video kinda helps to exemplify the whole evolution of spoiler culture, despite there being actual scientific evidence that spoilers don’t ruin your enjoyment of a piece of media.

She...She didn't know if it was true or not, and yet decided to share it like it was a legit spoiler? For a show she wasn't working on anymore? That's bloody weird, but I'm not surprised she'd do that if she got so much attention from spoilers before. The internet is vicious, and death threats and harassment are never permissible. At the same time, she set herself up for backlash doing that. News stations apparently lying about her being fired is also pathetic. This whole thing is weird..
