"You never know what's on the other side of your obedience (to God)." Makes me think of story of Lazarus. Martha and Mary knew that on the other side of that stone was a dead brother, but God's perspective saw a man alive. You only get to that if you agree to roll away the stone in your life for Jesus to do a miracle.

You can't ask God for what you want. You have to ask him for what he wants. You don't know what you want unless God tells you. This is true if you're actually going to hear him. Because then he can tell you whatever he wants. But if you try to instruct him it doesn't work. You can't ask what you want for yourself but what you want for him. It has to be his reason for you having it if it happens according to his will. This is not something you think to have for yourself. If you think that you already know what you want then you're being presumptuous and aren't able to believe him when he tells you. You want whatever God tells you when you really mean it. This means we have to stop thinking about ourselves. But we know when God hears us because the answer is always "yes." He would never fail to give us what we ask according to his own will. Not saying it doesn't mean he won't give you a husband or doesn't want you to have one, but maybe you're not asking him the right way about it?
