When will the 'youth movement' of Marco Kasper, Carter Mazur and other prospects arrive?

The Detroit Red Wings have one of the deepest prospect pools in the NHL with guys like Cossa, Kasper, Johansson, Mazur and Danielson. Despite this, only 3 Yzerman draft picks are on the roster, and they are 6th oldest team in the NHL. At what point will there be a youth movement on Detroit's roster? #LGRW

@@user-pd5qz2vt2c not saying I disagree with you but im saying-more than likely, we will be a worse team next year with a full youth movement. Carter Mazur is not a better hockey player than Robby fabri right now. Axel sandin pelika is not a better player than Jeff Petry right now. Look at Logan Cooley in arizona he’s not bad but he’s not particularly effective either he’s gonna finish with 40 points while also being one of the weakest (strength wise) players on the team. Obviously he’ll get better and be a great player but not many players are gonna contribute like Raymond did under 21. Those are special players like Seider. We aren’t gonna call all the kids up and get better. So once again I ask- are you okay with missing the playoffs for 9 straight years? Are you okay with having the longest playoff drought in the nhl? Are you okay with possibly losing Stevie because he’s had 6 years? I am. Scared to death. Making the playoffs is so important this year

When does it come? When they're more than ready. Yzerman remembers the days of overcooking the prospects in our system. This has always been a cornerstone of the Yzerplan, and if I'm being completely honest, it's the number one reason why I wanted him in our front office. Is it a bad thing that more aren't in Detroit now? Not necessarily. If you saw how Berggren played when he was in Detroit this season, you can see why we didn't start the year with him. He needs more time to cook. Edvinsson is making rookie mistakes (and appears to be making fewer with every game), but has been one of our better D since getting called up. I think others (like Kasper) would've been given a call-up if there was a need for them once GR clinched. "The youth movement" will come. Don't force it.

I think Detroit's off-season needs are an elite center, a top 4 right D, and a legitimate top 6 winger. Yzerman has tons of assets to get it done so it should be a very interesting summer.

Goalies take a little longer to develop, let him get a run in the playing g.r. then maybe next year.

As Brian stated, there is a logjam on the left side of the defense. Yes, you can trade one or more prospects but also a trade of one of the existing defensemen should be considered, including Maata, Charott & even Waldman . All three of these players are very solid esp. Waldman but they might be able to get a top 3 or 6 winger. Charoot is also a physical player and has teamed up very well with Mo Seider. I am not in favor of trading either Walman or Charott unless the return justifies such a move.

Majority of these kids will be lucky to develop into solid AHL’ers, much less stick in the NHL. Some will take another 5-6 years to make it. You’re projecting their current success in juniors will translate to ECHL/AHL and then NHL. The AHL level is amassive jump for most junior players. The NHL isn’t even in the same universe. While it’s fun to project what kids might do in the future, I don’t even bother until they’ve gotten their training wheels in the AHL. We’ll be fortunate if 20% of your list is on the roster in 2028, and it’ll surprise you who they are. They’ll be some high picks that bust, some low picks that surprise. History has shown this repeatedly. I remember these hyped up kids being on same list as yours years ago. -Teemu Pulkinnen, Martin Frk, Riley Sheahan, Filip Zadina (supposed to be top winger) Dennis Cholowski (supposed to be our future top pair dman)Evgeni Svechnikov (future franchise player) Jakub Kindl, Tomas Jurco, Zach Nastasiuk, Vile Saarijarvi, Brendan Smith, and I’ll add Michael Rasmussen, supposed to be future franchise centerman, 2C at worst. I’ll give credit to Ras, he changed his game some in order to stick in the league as a 3rd/4th line guy, I like his game overall, but we did not spend a 9th overall pick to get what he provides. Not to piss in your Cheerios bud, but projecting kids, most of whom haven’t even developed into top AHL’ers yet, is just guessing. Reality is, it’s extraordinarily rare to draft a sure thing beyond 2nd-3rd overall. We have a good pool of kids which gives a slightly higher chance than average that 1 or 2 more make it. Success in juniors is a good sign, but doesn’t mean nearly as much as some fans think.

Need to remember hockey is a business and you might want to shift your worldview to consider prospects as assets to be invested in many different ways. The Griffins are a legitimate asset to the red wing organization. trades are made with assets. To make a long run you need to have a blend. You need to assure that the pipeline is a long one. You also need to understand team chemistry and culture. A focus on a youth movement could be counterproductive at times. A players ceiling needs to be understood in the context of when you believe (based on the eye test) they can achieve that level of consistent play.

I definitely would have preferred Benson, however, our center prospect depth is pretty much nonexistent outside of Kasper, and Benson is probably gonna continue to play on the wing in the NHL, so I don't think the Danielson pick was all that bad. I think Danielson is actually far better than his counting stats might suggest, which is all most people look at. His short stint in Portland shows what he's capable of when surrounded with better talent. I would not be surprised if he makes the team out of camp next year, but I would bet he spends some time in the AHL and gets called up if he continues to impress. I think he's one of the most well-rounded players in the 2023 draft class, especially defensively, and I think he could do a lot to help improve team defense, so he may be up sooner than a lot of people might have initially guessed.

The time " to nurture " players is in the minor leagues , OHL and college hockey, etc. But when athletes reach the upper levels and become paid for professionals , that period is over. Yes, players need to develop and gain experience , but in terms of attitude, they need to perform. I believe Derek Lalonde demonstrates a nurturing style of coaching that is good at the lower levels of the sport. But in terms of the NHL , he simply is out of his league. He is a nice guy , but he is just out of his element. There have been just too many lapses in individual and team performance that have resulted in unacceptable results. Derek Lalonde needs to be replaced. And Yzerman needs to understand that his reputation is starting to frey . Fans need to stop being apologists and start demanding better results. Creeping up a few points in the standings every year is unacceptable.Basically, the organization needs a good kick in the pants, and replacing Lalonde is a good start.
