And if you used 7 tools to negate a royal decree that is used in that chain, since royal decree hasn't resolved yet, decree gets negated.

​@@serberus180 yes, though there are plenty of ways to get around that in yugioh - not least that unlike in mtg, in yugioh you can attack monsters on the field so removing monsters by battle is a viable option (often not the preferred way, but it's sometimes optimal). Of course dragoon _also_ has a high attack stat, so the real way around it is to just not let your opponent bring it out / make it so costly that they don't get it in addition with something else (dragoon on its own is not that threatening to most decks, dragoon + 1,2 other interactions is obnoxious though). Thankfully there aren't really any ways to get the card out without jumping through a bunch of hoops (the only deck that does it right now is branded, and then only some variants because they typically have better/more consistent things they could be doing on their turn).

The funny thing is in MtG this similar interaction would work. The black hole (in MtG's case, Armageddon) targets the field, NOT the monster with the "protection from spells" effect. It basically forces a board state where everything is destroyed.

True, and yugioh also has universal/specific effects. Universal usually supersedes specific, like a monster that can’t be targeted can still be selected. Like Shooting Star Dragon T.G. EX has the effect that if a card targets monster(s) that you control you can banish a tuner and negate it, which Mirrorjade doesn’t say target instead it just says banish 1 so you can banish Shooting Star.

I had something similar with a card that read: If a Set Spell/Trap Card is activated (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card from your hand. I had set a Raigeki the turn before and flipped it, then tried to special summon. My opponent explained that the effect only works on cards that can only be activated by flipping them. So spell cards that could be played from the hand don't count. What the text on the card says doesn't always explain all the rules.

This brought back some terrible memories. Went to a sactioned local and when I instant fusion raijin to have him book himself. The opponent told me he is destroyed at the end phase due to instant fusion. I called judge since this isn't what I read extensively. Judge was friends with the opponent. Judge sides with opponent by saying the same thing. Opponent proceeds to throw raijin at me and told me to read my cards.

I play with family where if it say "targeted" then if an effect goes after more than one target it can work. Hazy flames say you can't target the monsters but if you target the hazy flame and kuriboh at the same time then they both die (or whatever your effect did). Idk if that works but that's how my family plays. I really have no one else to play with.
