Not really a Discworld reference since there were no elephants. There was a story of a woman who was talking to a professor at a university or something and she believed that the world was on the back of a giant turtle, and that turtle was on top of another, much larger turtle and so on and so forth. When asked what the final turtle was resting on, she replied "No, you don't understand. It's turtles all the way down." At least that's the reference as I understand it.
