I personally think so too, but for Kotoko the other guy was was better. I’m actually really glad she married who she really loved. And he married someone who actually loved him too. To be honest he deserved Chris. He deserved to be loved with the same type of devotion. I would have felt bad for him if he married Kotoko because she actually didn’t really love him.

But today after heartbreak and bad experiences I see how toxic Irie is...don't go just after good looks and wealth, but after kindness, respect and someone who cherieshes you and shows that.

tbf Irie grew out of it and only acted mean due of his mother invasive behaviour. He would probably been very different if his mother respected his boundaries. Although ngl the Anime makes him colder than the manga. In the manga when this one woman flirted him during honeymoon he said "my Kotoko is better than you" in her face ahahaha. I just wish Kotoko would not been so dependent on Irie, not always screaming for his help and use her own strenghts which only happened when she studied to become a nurse which again was to be close to Irie.

Then you must not have understood this story well... Firstly, not every story has the duty to show perfect and likeable characters and Kotoko and Irie were both very much imperfect. No one talks about how "toxic" Kotoko was too; she was always stalking him, making him feel bad when he wanted to focus on his own objectives, follow his own path and Kotoko came and "ruined" all of that, complicating every single step of the way, and for the better because she forced him to pave his own way with a lot of hard work instead of just doing what he thought he should do. This part is when she makes him question if he really wants to marry just for convenience (which he def would've had it not been for her) or choose to break it off with Chris and dare to struggle and fight for his own 'selfish' fun and happiness. Kotoko also. Yall complain that she didn't end up with Kin-chan, but he deserved "better" too, cuz she was always one-track minded, irresponsible, clingy, immature, conceited, and the list goes on. Irie and Kotoko were the perfect couple because they deserved each other, for better and for worse, and forced each other to not just grow tf up and be better, but to work for it. That's what the whole damn story is about! There's like 10 versions xD Why do yall not get that??

Kotoko just wouldn't get over a guy who treated her like shit in the 5 years she chased after him, and Naoki didn't confess his "love" for Kotoko until he found out that Kin proposed to Kotoko. Max possessive and ick factor and a major red flag. There's a reason why so many people would've preferred if Kin ended up with Kotoko because, unlike Irie, he actually treated her with respect and kindness. Obviously, the relationship was dead in the water because Kotoko was the idiot who couldn't get over Irie. She lacked any self-respect and continued to chase after a guy who treated her like utter trash. It wasn't Kotoko's fault that she and her father had to move in with Naoki's family, and even when Kotoko attempted to forget about Naoki, he'd find some way to come back into her life. Overall, this relationship is trash, nothing wholesome about it. Neither of them grew, Kotoko never learned to be independent from Naoki, and Naoki's shit attitude never changed. People are allowed to say that Kin was the better choice because Naoki was a horrible love interest, simple as that.
