Most of these attacks if not all would more or less be impossible to dodge without maximum agility, so that is what is being displayed here. You know, in case you are wondering why these never worked for you.

ADP goes from "making the game's animations actually function the same as they appear" - "easy mode slider"
@noop9k
@noop9k 3 жыл бұрын
For a player of other souls games it is more like going from “comically slow and getting damaged in the middle of fastroll” to “normal”. And then to “just like with ninja ring” but without 25% weight limit, which feels like cheating. Especially considering that mobs of early enemies rush you when you are trying to drink your estus veeeeeeeery slowly. And they are able to attack through each other’s body almost simultaneously. I almost stopped playing at that point.
@Genasidal
@Genasidal 3 жыл бұрын
@@noop9k I feel ADP is almost mandatory up to a point for most players (which is why I hate it as a concept) but to add fuel onto that bad design, if you level it too much, the game becomes laughably easy, which is worse considering DS2 is already not that difficult aside from a few choice areas (usually optional for DLC). And the bosses which weren't the best anyway overall become just boring. I'll still always find it funny that they removed an ultimately useless stat from DS1 and replaced it with one so useful that it breaks the game

for those curious, 20 ADP (96 AGL) is about enough to get DS1-like rolls, and around 32 ADP (105 AGL) is enough to get DS3-like rolls. If you're struggling a lot 24-25 ADP (99 AGL) is the best bang for your buck.
@DefinitelyNotAMachineCultist
@DefinitelyNotAMachineCultist 3 жыл бұрын
25 ADP is good bang for buck especially when you factor in attunement agility bonuses. Vitality might be the only stat in DS2 where diminishing returns isn't really a thing since it synergized really well with heavy armor and/or Iron Flesh for stupid amounts of mobility and tanking at the same time.

@anthonyfaiell3263
@anthonyfaiell3263 3 жыл бұрын
@@Shane24597 Resistance in DS1 was definitely useless lol that is true. And I have definitely met people, as well as read quite a few threads saying it is worthless. I have beaten the game 5 times total with 3 different characters (I realize that's not a whole lot, but more than some). And I have never once leveled adaptability. . It just forced me to learn what abilities were harder to dodge, and which ones were harder to block. And seeing as the game can be beaten without ever rolling at all, I would not consider ADP to be essential. . It's something I would call a "convenience stat." It doesn't actually make you stronger, it just makes the game a little more convenient. If you don't need that convenience, it is essentially worthless.
@Shane24597
@Shane24597 3 жыл бұрын
@@anthonyfaiell3263 you could say the same thing about HP. Hey, if you don't get hit, why have hp at all? The game is objectively easier with even a minimal investment in ADP though.
@anthonyfaiell3263
@anthonyfaiell3263 3 жыл бұрын
@@Shane24597 Not really. See there is another option for mitigating damage besides dodging. It's called blocking. HP is different because whether you are blocking or rolling, a failure will always result in damage to HP. My point was only that you can go through the whole game sprinting, or you can go through the whole game blocking. Or you can go through the whole game dodging. All are viable.

Hitboxes are mostly just fine. There’s 2 bad ones. Giant jumping club slam. And the Ruin Sentinel shield throw. I talked with someone who broke down code for the cheat engine about this. But your idea doesn’t make sense to me. They give you a way to deal with a problem successfully. Agility. Like you said.

@@christophercollins3632 are you mental? hitboxes are well documented to be terrible in this game. the worst one you didnt mention is sir alonne. that sword stab is just ludicrous. how can you think locking s behind a skill that doesnt tell you what it actually does would be a good idea? its dreadful and you know it.
@christophercollins3632
@christophercollins3632 3 жыл бұрын
@@rhyswhittington8759 Didn’t I mention it? I talked with a member of the team that dug through the code to create the cheat engine. And specifically asked about hitboxes. He said they’re fine, with a few glaring exceptions. The giant’s jumping club slam. The Ruin Sentinel’s shield throw. Don’t be so cocksure about your opinion that you assume I’m just being a contrarian. I like IFrames being tied to a stat. For many reasons. You want your free God rolls, before taking one step, just by getting naked? You think everyone should have the exact same? Fine! You’ve got 2 games that do that. God help us all that one of three games does some things differently! Like, not giving everyone the same roll from the very beginning of the game. Which encourages build and gameplay diversity. Doesn’t that sound awful! Or how DS2 is RPG-esque, where you start off with a weaker, less developed character that grows in skill over time? Heaven forbid! Or, how player matchmaking used Soul Memory. If you want your build to have the best roll, you gotta spend souls. That way, no one gets free God rolls, while someone else moves up a Soul Memory tier to get them. Kill me! The game tells you, in the help description, that Agility helps with evasion. What could that possibly mean? How do you “evade”? In a series that is notorious for not explaining shit, this spells it out: you’ll roll better. If you don’t think, “oh shit, I want some of that!”, and don’t increase it, and then get mad because you can’t dodge Sir Alonne, the problem isn’t the hitboxes. It’s you. Besides, you don’t need to level Agility, if you have good timing and spacing. They’re like training wheels, that help when you falter on either end, rolling too soon or late. Give you a little wiggle room, a bigger buffer for player error. Just kidding. You’re right. We need three of the same game. So we can have all the same builds and playstyles in each. Homogeneity. It’s what Miyazaki would’ve wanted.

As much as I feel like people shit too much on Dark Souls 2, I must admit that changing the number of invincibility frames with ADP is really unintuitive. Also, the ADP mechanic means that, unlike in 1 and 3, you can't change weight classes at will in 2. In 2 if you haven't invested in ADP you will never be a good dodger. There is less room to experiment in that regard.
@DefinitelyNotAMachineCultist
@DefinitelyNotAMachineCultist 3 жыл бұрын
I don't know what the original intent was but the fact that the ADP stat (which determines both dodge frames _AND_ Estus chug speed for some reason IIRC) exists without even a clear in-game description, which means without outside info you need to look at the description for ADP then the one for agility which mentions 'ease of evasion' to infer that it boosts dodge _to some unknown extent_ , makes it seem like the stat exists purely as some weird noob trap, and anyone who knows what it does would want to boost it to 25 minimum pronto outside of a weird 'no ADP levelling' challenge run. Besides that weird choice the build system seemed to give a lot of variety in DS2, plus the respec items meant I experimented a lot more than in DS1. 90% of the reason for the hate, may be down to the fact that DS2, more than any other classic Soulsborne title, seems to encourage (is biased towards?) playing unlocked to prevent camera pains, while using free movement to aim long-reach, wide-AOE weapons to deal with the crowds the game likes to throw at you. That kinda narrows the build variety down in practice, even if it seems larger in theory. That's not the entire problem though, what makes it weird is that DS2, unlike DS1 & 3, has this weird screwed up, rigid 8-axis, sudden acceleration movement by default from what I remember, even in Scholar of the First Sin, to the point where it makes the aforementioned free-aim harder. Before I got into it, there was a Soulstuber that mentioned how he initially hated the game before he tried it offline with the 'Deadzone Fix' movement mod, 25 min ADP, playing unlocked and favoring strike/magic hybrid weapons to deal with the overload of armored knight-type foes. I went that route from the start and enjoyed it way more than I expected. As for the fluff/lore/story content, it had a weird fever-dream vibe to it that I kinda liked. Maybe it was too disconnected from the previous story of DS1 for some people? I feel like a few core things got botched up a bit and it dragged down almost everything else for a lot of people, leading to it being the most shit-on of the DS trilogy. EDIT: Also you can stack multiple Lifegems before getting into close-combat to cheese through a lot of fights so there is that. Not sure which FromSoft title had the most cheese strats though.

@@DefinitelyNotAMachineCultist I think DS2 may just be my favorite out of the lot. I didn't play right after launch, so its possible that I missed the "shitstorm", so to speak, I heard it was very broken on launch and got fixed a lot later, and maybe that was drove a lot of players away to never come back. By the time I played some things were still quite broken, such as armor, which was using a weird formula where every point of defense meant 0.1% damage reduction. This formula meant that low amounts of armor such as 200, did almost nothing, while high amounts such as 600+ reduced your damage to ridiculous extends. Some specialized builds could reach insane 900+ values where they would be getting less than 10x the base damage, it was broken as hell. I played as a tank, which means I benefited from the broken formula, so maybe the game was less frustrating for me than others =)
@DefinitelyNotAMachineCultist
@DefinitelyNotAMachineCultist 3 жыл бұрын
@@ManoredRed IIRC you could stack armors with certain spells (like the one that blurred your peripheral vision as a negligible downside) and even Iron Flesh assuming a light enough armor or high enough VIT while still maintaining good rolls. I'm almost done with vanilla DS3 (late to the party) and plan to play the Cinders mod for it next. From the looks of it, modded DS3 may be my favorite of the 'classic' Souls games. Sekiro and Bloodborne are kinda their own thing and it doesn't feel like they get rid of my liking for Old-Souls even if I actually like Sek & BB more overall for a bunch of reasons. Old-Souls games did seem to favor greatshields, tanks and stealth an awful lot, not to mention aggroing enemies from a distance. I was weirdly, pleasantly surprised when some DS3 enemies like the Ariandel wolves & forest Corvians have sentries which alert and aggro all nearby enemies if you damage them or get too close without killing them fast.

First things first: you can respecc your build with Soul Vessels. Even better. Allows you to become a completely different build. Go from glass cannon mage to beefy bruiser, and back. 1. This is RPG-esque. You start off weak. You don’t immediately start with the best possible roll (get naked before taking first step). Some classes should feel different, like Explorer, with higher Agility. Not exactly like every other class , just by getting naked. 2. PvP uses soul memory. No build should get a god roll for free. Everyone has to pay, a little or a lot, depending on your playstyle. Encourage build and playstyle diversity, when everyone isn’t able to have the best roll without any effort.

@escrivaodegalarran1098

Actually, dark souls 3 is the hardest, it's the only game in the series that completely destroyed the purpose of shields and heavy armor, the only two effective builds is light + melee, light + magic or simply a combination of both, and even then, the animations aren't as good as DS1 or 2, making it nearly impossible to get to used to some gatekeeping bosses that dance if you know what I mean, in a sense, most of DS3 difficulty lies in technical aspects unrelated to player ability and more to game design.

@@escrivaodegalarran1098 I'd have to disagree, I've played ds3 with light weapons, greatswords, ultra greatswords, and magic, and they're all viable, shields are definitely less useful aside from parries, but most weapons are at least somewhat viable, especially in pvp. The difficulty of the game is only in speed, being faster than 1 and 2, but that's it

ADP will never cease to amaze me at how awful it is, it has to be a top hall of fame entry for worst mechanics ever conceived in a video game. It's tying a basic control function of the game to a stat, it's like if a platforming game added a deliberate input delay to every jump and then required you to invest points into a stat to reduce it.

The stupid part about DS2 system that the weight only affects the length/linear speed of rolls, until 70%. But s controlled by entirely different stat that is not actually connected to visible animations. The only way to see the effect of higher ADP is to look at your healthbar. You may be rolling great distances while naked, but still get damaged a lot, if ADP is low. Totally counterintuitive. ADP and/or ATN raise AGL. The reason they added agility was to force melee users to spend points in another stat other than just strength and health. This actually made the game a lot more balanced in PvP since casters had to spend points in ATN for spell slots. Its a shame that this system gets such a bad rep considering all the good it did.
