@@isaiahf-d846 Not necessarily their goal, but some decisions were plain boneheaded. Vietnam, for one. We could have wither won, or just left. Things would have needed to be done differently, and maybe the leaders didn't see those opportunities in the moment, but things could have gone better. Also, the reconstruction era after the Civil War. People didn't support it (either didn't want it, or just didn't care), but the government should have stepped in and offered the ex-slaves a choice to either stay, or transportation north, or transportation back to Africa. They could have at least had that choice. The other thing that would have been an improvement would have been to crack down on the KKK and the carpet baggers that were sucking dry what little capitol the South still had. Neither of those incidents were party based per se, but our leaders should have stepped up and taken responsibility and action. Again, the far reaching consequences weren't known then, but some obvious conclusions could have been drawn had they taken any interest in the matter past "public opinion."
